4.25 Mile Moderate Hike at the Narrows Reserve

The Narrows Reserve runs along the Little Miami River in Beavercreek, just a few miles from Kettering on Indian Ripple Rd.

We'll meet in the main parking lot and hike the Vista Trail, the River Trail, the Big Woods Trail, and the Sugar Bush Trail ...that should be about 4.25 miles. If the group decides to add another loop, if time and conditions allow let's do it.

Go PAST this sign to get to the park itself, assuming you are coming from the west.

To get to the Narrows find your way to 675, like you were going to The Greene.  Get off on Indian Ripple Rd and head east into Beavercreek.  Go past Fairfield Road light and keep going... the first entrance is the nature center, just past that is the park itself.  Follow the short road into the park and look for the group.

Recommended Equipment:

If trails are soggy I would suggest hiking boots.  A flashlight or head lamp is recommended in case we get ambitious and it starts to get dark.  Water is always recommended on any hike.  Otherwise I do not anticipate any difficulty ... trails are smooth, wide and well marked/maintained.

Thanks to Greene County Parks District for maintaining this little gem of a park.

Remember:  Coming from Montgomery County the driveway to the main parking lot is just past the entrance to the nature center.

If you run into trouble feel free to call me at[masked]

Limited parking, if there are some +1 or +2 groups I may expand the attendance limit.

Kids and dogs welcome pursuant to Greene County Park rules and regulations.

Expect a pace of about 2.5 to 2.8 mph, with a few hills and a few "stairs" along with lots of smooth level walking.

"Muddiest hike ever!" Yes, the Narrows lived up to its reputation for muddy trails, but we still had a fun time. I think we saw Lake Michigan and hiked right alongside it :-). Good thing Jim warned us when "the other side is drier." Thanks Todd for a fun outing. Congrats to Mary for making it all the way to the mucky end.

Fantastic weather and the park was great ... but to quote Laura "muddiest hike ever". There were a few challenges but we skirted, slipped, splashed and mucked our way for 4.99 miles.
Special kudos to Mary who pushed thru ... you made it!

Sorry I have to cancel but I just got back from hiking in John Bryan/Clifton Gorge and got caught in a thunderstorm. Trails were flooded. Cancel if it rains again.

I hope they dry up by Saturday, because I was thinking about going to John Bryan then

Would love to do this hike - haven't been able to out for many this year with work; but I've been fighting bronchitis for the last week and I don't think I've beat it yet. We'll let somebody else go. Thanks Todd!

I'm going to do a little research today ... starting with checking on trail conditions ... this park can get really wet. I am also going to re-count parking spots before I make any changes to the attendance limit.
If your plans have changed for Wednesday please update your RSVP accordingly.
I will show up rain or shine unless we have known severe weather conditions. These annoying pop-up showers seem to be our new normal so I am not going to cancel because of rain!
More info later after my recon mission.

You could just set a carpool location for people that want to attend this. I have never been to the Narrows, but I have heard the parking there is not very good at all
