This meetup is for the joy of the hiking and the beauty of the fall leaves in the amazing setting of Hocking Hills, Ohio. Some the hikes we will do may include gorgeous vistas like Conkle's Hollow above or challenging passages like "Fat Woman Squeeze".
If you are afraid of heights or do not like small, tight places, this trip is probably not for you. Full details of the specific hikes we will do shall be provided to the members who sign up and will be determined at the time of the weekend retreat because some are weather-dependent (e.g. Conkle's Hollow is not advisable when wet). There are many beautiful hiking options, including Ash Cave, Rock House, Cedar Falls, Old Man's Cave. The plan is to do several hikes on Saturday & Sunday. Depending on arrival time, a quick hike on Friday evening would also be nice.
The accommodations will be clean but basic in order to minimize expenses. The goal is to use the camping cabin as a base camp (without all the work of backpacking) and hike to our hearts' content as much as possible. Attendees should plan to bring lunches, power bars and other snacks to eat on the trail for lunch both Saturday and Sunday.
We will be renting a KOA Camping Cabin with an open front porch. The cabin sleeps 4. It has electricity, TV, free wi-fi, a ceiling fan, heat (if needed at this time of year), and a small dorm-sized fridge. The cabin has a fire pit with grilling grate. There will be an indoor bath house close to the cabin with hot showers and flush toilets. A water spicket will be available on the site. Basically, it is like renting a hard walled tent with electricity. Attendees must bring their own linens and towels.
