Backpacking 101 Presentation
Are you ready to try backpacking after an inspiring visit to a national park? Ready to introduce your kids to the great outdoors? Whatever your goal, this indoor workshop will teach you the techniques to have a safe and enjoyable backpacking trip. We will cover topics such as backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, stoves, food, clothes, footwear, weather, terrain, comfort zone, trip planning, and Leave No Trace Principles. Learn the skills necessary to tackle your future backpacking trips confidently and competently. Learn from the experts!

Andy "Captain Blue" Niekamp, the lead adventurer of Outdoor Adventure Connection, has been leading adventure trips for decades, and has more than 25 years of back-country experience. He currently hikes more than a thousand miles a year. Andy has over 12,000 mile of backpacking experience including three end to end hikes of the Appalachian Trail and thru hikes of the Colorado Trail, Ohio's Buckeye Trail, Kentucky's Sheltowee Trace, Vermont's Long Trail and the Ohio To Erie Trail. Yvonne "Princess Doah" Entingh, Yvonne has over 4,000 miles of backpacking experience including hiking the entire Appalachian Trail and Florida Trail. Yvonne got her start in backpacking later in life after raising three daughters. In 2007, she enrolled in a beginning backpacking class at Five Rivers MetroParks and has been on numerous trips since that time. She has backpacked in over 18 states and does most of her hiking solo -- including an 900-mile solo hike on the AT in 2012. In the last year Yvonne hiked solo from Key West Florida to the mountains of north Georgia on a four month, 2000+ mile journey. Yvonne serves as an inspiration to others with her "you can too" attitude.
