Get Together At Gander Mountain

Join the Dayton Hikers group for an informal get together at Gander Mountain in Huber Heights. The Gander Mountain meeting room is reserved for our use from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.

6:30pm-7:00pm - Meet The Group. Come meet members of the group in a relaxed atmosphere. Mingle with your hiking pals. Meet new friends. New members are welcome to attend. Go shopping! Enjoy some coffee, hot chocolate, tea and snacks.

7:00 pm-8:00pm - Enjoy A Presentation.

Topic: Adventure in the White Mountains

Presenter: Mountain Laurel, Yvonne Entingh and Joy Williams.

Presentation Description: Mountain Laurel started thinking about climbing Mt Washington in the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire in December of 2012 but didn't know if it was possible. Mount Washington has the reputation of having the worst weather in the world. She didn't want to do it alone so she asked some of the ladies she hiked with if they would be interested. With encouragement of others she made week long hiking retreat and posted it on Dayton hikers. Then the training and planning began and they departed for New Hampshire on July 26, 2013. Discover how Laurel and her friends conquered Mount Washington and Franconia Ridge. Find out how a person over age 50 with asthma can climb a such rugged mountain.

8:00 pm-9:00pm - Go Shopping. Get A 20% Discount! All Dayton Hikers members will receive a special 20% discount on their hiking gear, backpacking gear, camping gear, footwear and apparel purchases at Gander Mountain this evening. Stock up on outdoor gear. To get the 20% discount show a Dayton Hikers card to the cashier. If you don’t have a card you can get one the evening of the Get Together in the meeting room. This discount is not available to the public. Gander Mountain closes at 9:00pm. Discount applies to a maximum of $500 in purchases.

Suggested Donation
There is a suggested donation of $1 per person for this Get Together. Your donation will help offset the cost of the food and beverages provided and cost of running the  Dayton Hikers group. The donation is just a suggestion and is not required.

I hope to see you there!

Wow! I can't believe I survived my first public speaking event! I'm afraid I need to shorten it up a bit because I went a little over time. Thank you everyone for attending, helping out and not heckling me! LOL!

You did great, it's much easier to talk about hiking that to climb those big mountains!

Thank you to Mountain Laurel, Melissa, Yvonne, Joy and the entire White Mountain ladies group for sharing your wonderful adventure and many pictures with us. Very inspiring to see how far you came through the planning and training last year to reach your goal on top of the mountain. Loved the "oh s@#t moment" when you found out you weren't on top of the mountain you thought you were--priceless! My thanks to the entire "hiker crew" that helped host the meeting with me, including Todd for AV support and set up, Barbara and John for the yummy snacks and Rick "You Got $5?" for doing an excellent job of making sure no one got out of the room without a TVT raffle chance!

It was great. Mountain Laurel did a great presentation, it was so good, I wished I could have experienced that trip with them. Thanks Yvonne for your info as well. Rick did an awesome job with the raffle - he is so convincing I think my wallet is now empty. And thanks to Laura and her helpers - all went smoothly!

Coffee pot, coffee, tea, cups, napkins, etc are supplied. You will be reimbursed for the snacks you bring. Multiple volunteers are welcome. Contact me if you are interested.
