Lance, thanks for sharing your video! About where you were ending the Germantown loop I recall I got really hungry. I think my Builder Bar, Fritos and Gatorade, plus determination, got me to 28. Fun to relive the day on video, it was perfect weather.

Awesome video Lance! Thanks for creating and sharing it with us.

Lance. We had 14 who signed up with our group. 8 finished the 41. One did 32 miles. We had ages from 30 to 62 who did it all. I think the final point was at Bob sled on 3rd leg. We put our shirts on and I feel that committed is to the end. I've put a lot of miles in with this group and they have a mind set not to quit. We had several injuries. Knees ankles hips and blisters. I'm very proud to know them and love hiking with them. Boots to the ground one step at a time.

    7 · June 22, 2014

  • Rick S

Great video. Brought back how far the 41 was and how tough it was to complete. Keep your boots on the ground and hike one step at a time.

    • Lance S.

I consider myself an experienced hiker, but my hat goes off to those who did the 41. Not sure how you did it.

      June 22, 2014

    • Kathie H.

They ran the first 5 miles and then averaged between 4.2 and 3.8 mph the rest of the way. One is over 60, one will turn 60 in the fall. They're all terrific hikers (and people) but a wee bit insane.

Great video. What camera did you use?

    1 · June 22, 2014

    • Lance S.

Walt, I shot the whole thing with a GoPro Hero 3. It's my go-to camera for hiking and backpacking.

Lance, I just watched the entire video. I was unable to hike this year however with watching your wonderful video, I feel like I did more than just get to volunteer... I got into the woods and dirty just a bit. Thanks you did an awesome job hiking and on the video.

We had 222 people participate in the Twin Valley Trail Challenge! The weather was perfect and the trail conditions were great. Thank you to Normajean Roselius, Rosetta Keller and John Youker for making this event great! We hit the ball out of the park today! My hat goes off to everyone who came to hike and put some boot prints on the Twin Valley Trail. We spent many hours planning and preparing for this event and we got er done! A great big thank you to all the Dayton Hikers volunteers who made it happen and the wonderful support of Five Rivers MetroParks.

Andy and John -- the signage and flags this year were perfect! I get lost going to my mailbox so but I never went astray yesterday. NormaJean and Randy deserve a vacation; they and all the other food/water volunteers did an outstanding job. Rose, the picnic food was even better than last year with more than enough left for us stragglers. I wish I had taken a pulled pork sandwich home with me; I really want one right now. And, best of all, I can still ambulate today.

Well today i need a Crane to move me from place to place. We started with 12 strong. Lost one to traffic , lost one to blisters, two stopped early. We had 9 finish. I an very proud of all who got up at 3 and 4am to meet at 5am. John the markings could not have been better. The volunteers saved many lives. Andy great job. Special thanks to Terri for the shuttle back to our cars. The people who Finished the 41 are true trail warriors. Happy trails to all and a good night

I feel your pain brother! :-) I would have never thought of going on a 41 mile hike on my own... thanks for that. It does feel good in the end having accomplished such a challenging event and to do so with friends makes the pain all worth it. That hike was at the edge of my physical limit. Now I know where my line is and how to train for pushing that limit :-) All I need are iron feet, two new knees and a pack mule.

      1 · June 15, 2014

    • Kathie H.

Rick -- Did you hike today as planned?

      June 15, 2014

  • Andy N.

If you enjoyed a snack or a bottle of water on the hike make sure you thank Normajean! Serving snacks and water to 222 hikers in seven locations in two different parks for varying hours is quite the logistical challenge. If you enjoyed the picnic afterwards make sure you thank Rose. She did a great job having the right amount of food ready at the right time for hikers finishing the trail over the course of five hours. A big thanks to John for marking the route. It is a tough job to put signs over 25+ miles of trail. It took a team to make this happen.

Thanks Andy, John, Normajean , Rosetta, Randy, and everyone else who made this event such a special day. The rest stops were awesome and the trails were really, really well marked.

A truly great hiking event and wonderful day. Dayton Hikers is all about support, encouragement, new and old friends with a shared passion, and fun! The TVT challenge had it all. A huge thank you to Andy, John, Normajean and Rosetta for organizing and hosting such a great hiking event for all 222 of us (hopefully next year all of you can hike). The hiker support and snack stations were awesome and were much needed and appreciated places to refuel, rest and then press on. The final picnic was a great finish to the day. See you next time on the trail!

Thanks Katie! It was a pleasure to meet you along with the rest of the group. I ended up having to throw in the towel at 25miles. I was still going strong, but a few wicked blisters got the best of me quickly. I'm really bummed that I didn't complete the 41, I keep telling myself that I guess that means I have 1 more year to train for TVT 2015. Congratulations to you and the rest of the gang!

Although this wasn't my year for a hike, I was privileged to be able to participate as a volunteer for such a well planned and executed event. This is frankly the best group of people; Dayton Hikers that I have ever had the pleasure of being involved with. You hikers who accomplished the 28 and certainly the 41 are a true inspiration. I met many people wonderful people, made many new friends and found a place to call home with great people who love what I love. Thanks John, Andy, Normajean and Rose for all your hard work and everyone else who made this happen.

Thank you Andy, John and all volunteers! What a great group of people. Great conversation with many on the 41 miler group! Thank you James, Larry (aka PDD & NE) and Terri for hiking with me! You all are great!

So tonight, I marked over half of the TVT Hiker Challenge course, including all of Germantown, part of the TVT, and part of Twin Creek...... I put out about 40 signs and about 80 marker flags. 40 more signs to go and about 20 more marker flags! All to be done on Friday afternoon! It is going to be a GREAT hike Saturday....... The full moon lit my way tonight into Dogwood Pond, part of the purple trail, part of the orange trail near Nigh View, and all around the Germantown Dam and spillway area...... See you Saturday!

Full Moonrise tonight is about 9:40 ESE - campers or others could have a nice view of it coming up from the High View on Eby Rd. Park closes at 10 - just enough time to see it clearing the horizon.
