Join the Dayton Hikers group for an informal get together at Gander Mountain in Huber Heights. The Gander Mountain meeting room is reserved for our use from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. This is the last Get Together of the season.

6:30pm-7:00pm - Meet The Group & Gear Buy/Sell/Swap. Come meet members of the group in a relaxed atmosphere. Mingle with your hiking pals. Meet new friends. New members are welcome to attend. Bring a friend. Go shopping! Enjoy some coffee, hot chocolate, tea and snacks.

Gear Swap: Bring in your gently used outdoor gear and clothing. Buy, sell & trade! Get rid of that gear you no longer use. Most of us have a piece or two of gear sitting in a closet or drawer we should part with. This is a great opportunity to find a new home for it. Need some gear? You just might find a bargain!

The Edge Of Appalachia Preserve in Adams County, Ohio

7:00 pm-8:00pm - Enjoy A Presentation.
Topic: The Nature Conservancy's Edge of Appalachia Preserve System: A True Ohio Treasure
Presenter: Marleen Kromer and Briana Walsh of the The Nature Conservancy Ohio
Presentation Description: Marleen & Briana Walsh will give a presentation on the impressive 16,000 acre Edge of Appalachia Preserve in southern Ohio. They will focus on the importance of the preserve as part of North America’s oldest and most biologically diverse forest systems. With more than 100 rare plant and animal species who make their home within the preserve, and a total of 7 miles of beautiful hiking trails for the public to enjoy, it is critical to protect it from many threats, including unsustainable forestry practices and habitat fragmentation in surrounding areas. Marleen & Briana will enlighten the group on the beauty and history of the preserve and how The Nature Conservancy continues to protect it.
Marleen began working for The Nature Conservancy in 1985 and is the current associate director of conservation helping to develop conservation strategies for the state. Briana has been with the conservancy as the Community Rep. for southern Ohio since April 2012 connecting with supporters in Cincinnati, Dayton, and Adams County.

8:00 pm-9:00pm - Go Shopping. Get A 20% Discount! All Dayton Hikers members will receive a special 20% discount on their hiking gear, backpacking gear, camping gear, footwear and apparel purchases at Gander Mountain this evening. Stock up on outdoor gear. To get the 20% discount you must RSVP "yes" and show a Dayton Hikers card to the cashier. If you don’t have a card you can get one the evening of the Get Together in the meeting room. This discount is not available to the public so make sure you RSVP "yes". Gander Mountain closes at 9:00pm.
