Description
Need to shed the turkey? Grab your boots and gear up to hit the TVT while everyone else hits the malls... Join us for the Flying Turkey Trot (FTT) on the Twin Valley Trail (TVT)! The TVT is Five Rivers MetroParks backcountry experience that traverses many different natural habitats with rich biodiversity and wildlife? The Twin Valley Trail combines the existing network of trails in Germantown and Twin Creek MetroParks with a connection to create a longer trail system. Set in the rolling hills of the Twin Valley, it provides trails with beautiful hills, babbling brooks, abundant wildlife, history and small town charm. We will be completing 11.5 miles of this 22 mile trail that connects Germantown MetroPark and Twin Creek MetroPark. We will begin at the Lake George parking lot (Camp Hook) within the Twin Creek MetroPark and end at the Old Mill Group Camp on Old Mill Road within the Germantown MetroPark. This trek will allow everyone to experience the portions of the Twin Valley Trail less traveled. Pack a lunch and we will eat lightly at the High View picnic shelter (9688 Eby Road). Once we reach the Old Mill Group Camp, we will shuttle by car for the return trip to Lake George. Post up if you are willing to volunteer to act as a shuttle!
Points of Interest:
- Bob Siebenthaler Natural Area
- Twin Creek
- The Florentine Restaurant
- Hopewell Earthworks (Fort Carlisle)
- Camp Hook
- The Germantown Dam and Spillway
- Limestone Outcrops (one of the best fossil collecting spots in Ohio)
Notes:
- Germantown trails are notorious for mud. We will be taking the high trails, but come prepared to stomp through a few moist sections if it has rained days leading up to the event. - Pets must remain on leash - Pack it in/pack it out
Post Hike Activities
Afterward (approximately 4 PM), we will meet up at the Florentine Hotel Restaurant (21 W Market St) in Germantown for some Gtown grub. Additionally, if there is an interest, we shall visit Great Miami Outfitters in Miamisburg for some Christmas shopping, hikers style.
Another great day of friends, nature and hiking. Thanks for sharing the day with us. Looking forward to next year!

What a great hike with fellow hikers (including Yoda and Princess)! Thanks, Kenny, for organizing this meetup again.

Where is the meeting location for this hike? Lake George parking lot or the parking lot for the group campsites & amphitheater?
November 22
My first time on this meetup and I too, would like to make this a tradition. Thanks to the generosity of the leaders and hikers, I was able to hike this incredibly beautiful route with them today. It was brisk, both temperature as well as pace. Good people and good conversation. Thanks again!

My favorite Black Friday tradition, two years straight. What an awesome way to spend the day on a beautiful trail with the company of some great hikers. Even a fall on my tush and bent hiking pole didn't dampen my spirits! Thanks to Kenny for organizing this fun hike.

Another great Black Friday tradition! Thank you Kenny for putting together a great hike.

Oh! I was cold.... But all the friendly people brought warmth to my soul. And thanks Andy for letting me use your Red Barron like cap ....

GREAT hike: My new 'After-Thanksgiving Day' tradition!
THANK you Kenny for organizing this timely annual hike, thanks to Laura, my shuttle driver, without whom this would have been a 22+mile hike and thanks to all who's good company made it a really FUN hike!
November 23
Great hike today! Thank you Kenny. A perfect post-Thanksgiving trek. And to think it was too "warm" today to open the RiverScape ice rink!
November 23
I can shuttle 4-5 hikers.
Email me on the site and we can arrange the details.

Good Morning Dayton Hikers!
We hope your Thanksgiving Day was the best ever... Now its time to get our hike on!
Weather
The rain was moved through our hike area overnight. It was not a heavy rain and I do not expect the trails to be overly muddy. However, wear appropriate footwear in the chance we encounter a moist section. An extra pair of socks and gaiters would be a great idea too!
I expect sunny skys at the start of our hike and the temparatures should rise until noon and then begin to fall as the clouds begin to creep in. Be prepared for the swing in temparature by dressing in layers. A small daypack will be ideal to carry extra clothing, snack, lunch, water and maybe an apple or two for the horses we see.
DEPARTURE
We will leave promptly at 10 AM, however if you are running a few minutes behind, please call me and we will wait for you. Check your Meetup.com email for contact information. I looking forward to seeing my well fed hikers this morning :0)
November 23
I can get there whenever... [masked] call or txt. Can shuttle 3 to 4 people depending on size and other factors.
November 21
If you are able to act as a shuttle driver, please reply to this thread or call me (if you know my number). Shuttle drivers will transport all hikers between the start and ending locations of this hike. This hike is not a loop and we will need to work together to make this happen. Shuttle drivers should arrive in advance of start time. I will message those that offer to help with details. Thanks everyone and Happy Thanksgiving!
