This is a group for adults in the DeKalb area who are serious about writing. If you want helpful readings of your work from other writers, and if you'd like to read others' writing-in-progress, this is a great opportunity. We welcome any creative genres (poetry, memoir, fiction, creative non-fiction, screenwriting, etc.)--but not academic-style writing intended for academic journals. Our goal is to create a positive, encouraging, honest, and fun atmosphere that is consistent enough to build trust.
You can post your work and find the work of others by clicking the "More" tab at the top of the page. Under there, you will see "Files." Work (up to around 1,250 words max) should be posted before midnight Wednesday prior to the next meetup to ensure that everyone has time to read it. You may also wish to preface your post with a brief comment about the type of critique you're looking for (for example, specific concerns or questions you'd like the readers to address).
We meet every other Friday at 2:30 p.m. in DeKalb. Membership dues are $1 per meeting to cover the cost of the Meetup Group listing fee.
We don't want a lot of people hanging around as members in name only, so if you can't regularly attend meetings and post your work, please do not join until you can. For those who have already joined but who can't attend meetings regularly, we kindly ask you to "un-join" for now. You can always come back when you are ready to be an active member.
