A little of both, I suppose. I take all kinds of pictures. Sometimes I am just documenting an experience. Other times I feel like I've found something with a more universal appeal. Every now and then I get lucky and sell one or take an assignment for a specific type of photograph.
I shoot mostly with a Canon 7D. I've collected as many lenses as budget will permit, but I mostly use the EF-S 10-22, EF-S 17-55 and the EF[masked] f/4L because of the quality and versatility I get per pound. For macros, I grab the 100mm and sometimes add an extension tube or the 250D screw-on close-up filter/lens.
I enjoyed the trip to Callaway that I took with the group, and I'd like more opportunities to get out and shoot. I'm also not as good at planning shoots as showing up for them, so it's wonderful when someone else is willing to do that!
A couple of years ago, I gave in to my passion for photography. I was fortunate to be able to retire early and leave the corporate life behind. Who knows where it will lead. For now I'm just enjoying the flexibility I have.
It's a wonderful group with friendly, talented photographers who love to go out and shoot! What more could you ask for?
