For POST-BEGINNER GUITARISTS who know basic chord changes, can play a few songs, and want to train their ear and understand the nuts and bolts of music better.
(If you're a beginning guitarist who's just starting out, please consider joining the Southbay Acoustic Musicians, who offer great beginner classes that prepare you for the Del Rey Acoustic's next level of instruction.)
Our classes include instruction on guitar playing, ear training, scales, chord progressions, etc., without getting into complicated music theory. We connect the shapes of scales and chords to how they sound. You'll start seeing patterns on the guitar and hearing where you need to go next. Once you train your ear, a lot of possibilities open up to you. Every few meetups, we ditch the teaching and just jam on some songs. That puts your training to use and lets you relax and jam with other musicians.
The organizer is a guitarist, bassist, flautist and vocalist with live performance experience and an extensive professional training background. He knows how to pace a class to keep things moving, but is as patient and supportive an instructor as you'll meet.
Try us out. Read the group reviews to see what other guitarists are saying about the group, the instructor, the teaching handouts. We have over 75 musician members; they tell us this group helps them play guitar better and really understand how music works. We've been going strong for almost three years now.
