Movie Night at Home

8Hi all!
We had a great time for the first one, and though I'm kinda late planning this one, would stll like to do it for anyone that would like it. Like last time, we would get together about 4:30, have a nice sit down dinner, then afterwards watch a movie on my sons monster tv (well, coming from the old days its monster to me!!! 55 inches!). Since I'm challenged in the kitchen, again, I give it to you ladies to handle it (or if some guy is good, that's ok, I'm not sexist!). I'll provide a pizza, and there was pot luck for much of the rest. I do have drinks and some desert, but variety from others is better than what I can provide!! Also, if you respond, you can suggest a movie, I'll share it with all others who respond, and we will chose what we will watch over dinner, since we don't have one selected yet.

Looking forward to another great time!

David

Thanks David for hosting another movie night. Lots of good food, and friends.

I thought it was very nice, tho I'm a bit uncomfortable "rating" my own event. I enjoyed it immensely, but don't wish to overrate it for others. We had a nice time, pleasant meal, a lot of food, tho I probably didn't get enough pizza! (last time had a lot of it left over!). Then it was nice watching the movie of the choice of the group, which was The Great Gatsby. An interesting observation of the roaring 20s, exorbitant riches, and personal interactions

David, Thank you for hosting the movie night, the pizza and your nice table setting. It was great to meet new friends, who brought delicious food.

Hi David. Since you have space for 8 total, may I bring my friend, Virginia? She is not a member of any meetups. I will add plus 1 if this suits you. Thank you.

We now have a couple other additions. Actually, I've had a few from some that won't be attending this time--we can consider them when they can bring them!

Here are little blurbs about the 2 new submissions:

    The Great Gatsby:
Mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby is obsessed with Daisy Buchanan. Beyond Gatsby's grasp, Daisy is married to unfaithful Tom, making for a love triangle that ends with broken hearts. (I hope the 2 versions, 1974 and 2013 are the same, the latter being a more modern remake).

    The Magic of Belle Isle
After alcoholism depletes his enthusiasm for writing, celebrated author Monte Wildhorn finds his creative passion renewed when he moves to quaint Belle Isle and gets to know his next door neighbors -- a single mother and her three daughters.

Interesting--I've been to Belle Isle when I lived near Detroit as a kid! My grandparents lived in Grosse Pointe which was real close.

I am going to bring The Magic of Belle Isle with Morgan Freeman. If we want to watch that fine and if there is another movie everyone prefers, it won't hurt my feeling. Just thought I throw it out there. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Hi Mary - Just checked out the info about "The Magic of Belle Isle" and it sounds very touching. Morgan Freeman is great in any movie. Thanks! I ordered (rental) The Great Gatsby yesterday and if we want a double feature, we can do that too, according to David. If not, another time...Probably most have seen it. I look forward to meeting you.

Hi All, Looking forward to seeing everyone. I'll bring a main dish for 8. Don't forget the directions to your house. I don't know if I still have them in my GPS

I just noticed that there is supposedly an "end time" of 7:30 pm. I don't know how that got there--we will end when we will end! for not sure a movie would be finished by then after a nice relaxed meal together.

Hey David, This is a great idea. I did see "Her" and have an interest in: "The Great Gatsby" ; "Casablanca" is a wonderful classic. I will bring a salad and dessert, unless you have a specific request. (thank you for having pizza for us).

I would like to come to meet some new people. I work in the morning time.
Can you provide directions, so I know exactly how to get there. I don't drive much, just locally.
    Thanks.
    Have a great day. :):)

    Her 2013 R 126 mins
In this sci-fi romantic comedy starring, love comes to a lonely young writer in the sleekest of packages when he finds himself falling in love with the advanced operating system he purchased to run his life, an intelligent computer operating system (OS) with a female voice and personality.

In this Oscar-winning classic, American expat Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) plays host to gamblers, thieves and refugees at his Moroccan nightclub during World War II ... but he never expected Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) - the woman who broke his heart -- to walk through that door. Ilsa hopes that with Rick's help, she and her fugitive husband can escape to America. But the spark that brought the lovers together still burns brightly.
