The Horn Program has graciously offered to open their Venture Development Center to us once again for our Meetup. We are further delighted that HostMySite has very generously offered to sponsor the evening. This time we're going to get started at 6:30pm and again we'll be gathering at the Venture Development Center, located at 132 E. Delaware Ave., Newark, DE.
I hope that everyone has been thinking about your social hack pitch assignment that we threw out there last month. This time, we want to hear your 60-second pitches for your best social entrepreneurship ideas - in case you missed it, by social entrepreneurship ideas, we mean ideas that can change the world / make it a better place / help those in need. Before we hear your ideas, though, we'll first hear from our Keynote speaker, yet another super-impressive UD grad, Micah Sklut, founder of Swellinfo.com.
Micah studied Climatology at the University of Delaware working with computer weather models and researching ocean/atmosphere interactions. After graduating in 2005, he bundled his knowledge of weather forecasting with his passion for surfing to create Swellinfo.com. Swell Info is an automated approach to forecasting surfing conditions in the United Sates, allowing surfers to know when the best time to go surfing is during the upcoming week. The site attracts around 300,000 unique users per month (read that again: per MONTH) and was just recently sold to an outdoor enthusiast media company. Micah is driven by the desire to create cool things and being his own boss.
In addition to Micah's talk, we'll be hearing from a few other entrepreneurs and we will be making announcements regarding some upcoming events and other things you don't want to miss.
See you on Thursday evening at 6:30p at the Venture Development Center!
