Kart Racing

How about a Sunday of Kart Racing at Slick Willy's Karts & Eats in Wyomissing, PA: http://slickwillyskarts.com/?

The best deal is $37.95 for 3, 14 lap adult races. If you've never done high speed kart racing before, 3 races is plenty. I'm suggesting either 3/2 or 3/9 @ 11:30am, their opening time on Sunday. The only other fee is an annual license which costs $4.95. This place is about 30% less than Lehigh Valley Grand Prix and they use electric karts, so there are no fumes.

If you have a helmet, bring it. If not, they have helmets and head socks you can wear.

I spoke with someone there and they said that Saturday is their busiest day, hence the Sunday date. Also, if you dig into their website, you'll see that you can reserve races, but you pay the single race price of $17.95 for each race you reserve. Which is why I suggest we just show up and get the 3 race deal.

Another neat feature at Slick Willy's is that they start you out at a lower power/rpm limit. However, even at this level the karts are a lot of fun. Because the karts are remotely controlled, they can cut power if there is a dangerous situation on the track. AND... when you get your time down to a certain point (appears to be below 26 seconds) they up the power/rpm and you REALLY fly then. This came as a complete surprise to me. I got the extra power my last four laps and lowered my times almost a full second. I would have done better with more laps of "expert power" (their words) because I had to re-learn the track. But it is definitely fun and I will go back.

Kart Racing at Slick Willy's was the most fun I've had all week. I would definitely do it again.

This was my first time at this place and it was better than expected. The karts were fast and it wasn't too crowded. Those of you that signed up and didn't show missed a good time.

I just checked the hourly forecast on weather.com for Reading, PA and it looks like it will be warm enough (mid 30s) that even if there is precipitation, it won't be sticking. So, YES, let's race!

Pre-registered and ready! Sounds like the weather is going to cooperate, too, for a change. Let's race!

I assume these are golf-cart engines, no clutch, etc??

Every cart I've raced has a slipper/centrifugal clutch. So only an accelerator pedal and brake pedal (left foot braking). Don't know what kind of electric motor they use, but they are fast.

Their website mentions that they can reach 50mph, but I doubt that they'll go that fast on their track.

For those of you that have never done this before, with one simple tip from me, you'll be up to speed by the end of the 1st race.

This sounds like another opportunity to thoroughly embarrass myself. I'm in.
