C&C @ STEELSTACKS followed by 80 mile drive.

  • April 27, 2014 · 8:30 AM

Cars & Coffee also occurs on a monthly basis at SteelStacks in Bethlehem, PA. Their first one this year is from 9 to noon on Sunday, April 27. This one appears to be significantly larger than the weekly one we just went to south of West Chester.

If you open the above site and then click on the thumbnail for the photo link and then click on it again to really enlarge it, you'll get an idea of how big this C&C event has become.

In the foreground you'll see several Ferraris, a couple of Lambos, a Viper, a Nissan GT/R, a Porsche and a couple of other cars you may never have seen in person. The brownish car to the left of the 4 bikes is a McLaren MP4 12C and the little yellow car with the slatted rear window is a Hennesey Venom GT, the fastest road legal car in the world (officially timed at 270+mph).

Now, I can't promise that any particular car will be there, but, if you scroll through the photo gallery, you'll get an idea of the diversity of cars that have come in the past.

Afterwards, for those that are interested, I'll lead a "Spirited Drive" of about 80 miles thru the hills and dales of Lehigh & Berks counties.

We'll meet at the Subway at the designated location above, which is in a shopping center called "Saucon Valley Square", at 8:30 and then head over to the SteelStacks location at around 8:45.

For those not interested in the drive, Sands Casino is only a couple of blocks away from SteelStacks and the Musikfest Cafe is just around the corner. For those of you not familiar with SteelStacks, it is an entertainment complex, with both outdoor and indoor facilities, built in the shadow of the giant, now silent, Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces. The outdoor facility offers FREE concerts Friday & Saturday nights from Memorial Day weekend into September. You can pick up a brochure at the entrance to the Musikfest Cafe.

NOTE: If you're going on the drive, we'll leave SteelStacks at noon and it will take an additional 2 to 2.5 hours. We will end up in the same shopping center as the Subway. After the drive, those so inclined can stop at the Starters Pub, which is in the same shopping center as the Subway, for food, drinks and a rehash of the drive and the C&C event.

I hope to see you there.

Thanks, Mike. What amazed me about the C&C was that there was a traffic jam just getting into the event. The event was gihugic. My favorite car? A beautiful early 70's TR6 with a BMW M power (straight 6) engine installed. Everything from a Honda 600 hatch and an original Mini to a Rossion, a Mercedes SLS and a Lexus LFA

SteelStacks is a fantastic venue for a car show, and the number and variety of cars on display was amazing. I counted several never-seen-before and many old favorites.

The drive was spirited, as advertised, and traversed some beautiful countryside on challenging roads.

A great day all around. Good job, Dave!

Adam, we're meeting at the Subway at 8:30 for BR break and getting something to eat and we'll be leaving for the show at 8:45. If you can't make 8:45, you can call me (I don't accept texts) at[masked] and we'll find each other. We'll be parking in and leaving from the secondary lot, across the street from the main lot, which parallels the blast furnaces.

Dave, thank you for reply it sounds like it would be a good plan. I don't want to do this but I am going to need to cancel my RSVP. I'm starting a small farm and we had a few surprises today that I need to deal with immediately and especially before the rain comes early in the week. I was really looking forward to this event. Hope to make it next time when things are a little less hectic here.

I have a pretty long trip to get there in the morning and I fully intend to make it by 8:30. But just in case I don't, I was curious if there could be a backup meeting point at the stacks, or just outside the stacks at noon just before the drive?

Apparently, the Starters Pub, mentioned above, has gone out of business, so our end point will be at Revolutions, which is in the same shopping complex. Revolutions is similar to Dave & Busters. Michelle and I put the finishing touches on the drive yesterday. I think you'll enjoy it.

I'd be all over this, but the date conflicts with my Deals Gap Rotary Rally trip that weekend

This is just the motivation I need to dewinterize the miata and burn off that old gas before the drive!
