Walk the D&R Towpath to 5-Mile Lock (Franklin Township)

Enjoy a morning walk along the main canal towpath in Somerset with the D & R's historian.  We'll meet at the Demott Lane Footbridge off Easton Avenue at 10:00 am and head north toward Five Mile Lock for a 3-mile round trip tour along the historic towpath. Come enjoy the park, burn a few calories and learn a bit about the D&R!  This level (but slightly rocky) walk will take about 2 hours. Inclement weather WILL cancel this meetup.  NOTE: Parking will be limited at the D&R lot but some overflow should be available at the Van Wickle House.  Due to limited parking I have to cap this walk at 20.  If you sign-up and then have a later conflict, please make sure to change your RSVP to "NO" to allow an opening to those on the waitlist.

Nice people to walk with (as usual) but didn't like this part of the Towpath. It was too rocky and hard to keep your footing in some places. Definitely not a good part to bike! Looking forward to the next walk!

No doubt this part of the path has suffered from the recent flooding event along the River. The path is rocky and not recommended for cycling.

Stephanie was great and had lots of info about this segment of the canal. She was more than willing to talk about all of the canal too. For those of us who are new to the area, her info is very much appreciated. The only thing that was not great about this walk was the material that covered some of the path. Completely the States fault, but putting this out there for folks who are looking for a bike path. This would be unfriendly for you........IMHO

Sorry to have to cancel - have a plumber coming tomorrow morning to fix a leak so I need to be home. Enjoy!

Hello Bob and Sharon, While parking is limited at this location, the participation limit is also in place because I have to maintain a reasonable group size on the path. So unfortunately, I have to say that even though you would be biking to the location, you'll have to wait to see if an opening appears on the list in order to attend. I will remind those on the list to drop out if other plans prohibit them from attending this program to open up spots for those on the wait list.

Okay, thanks. That wasn't clear from your post saying that you had to cap it due to parking.

Plans are changing so here is a spot for someone on the wait list - enjoy and catch you next time!

    Hello Everyone,

As a reminder, the Walk the D&R Towpath to 5-Mile Lock is scheduled for this Saturday, July 12th at 10 am. To those of you scheduled to attend, please check your calendars to make sure you are still available to attend this program. If not, I ask that you change your RSVP reply to "no" in order to open up a spot to someone on the wait list. Additionally, I would ask that you do so prior to the afternoon of Friday, July 11th in order to give enough early notice of an opening to the next person on the wait list. Thank you for your consideration and assistance. See you on Saturday morning.

I will also be cycling to this if I get in off the waiting list. I do not drive. I will be coming from the train station in New Brunswick

Is the group size restriction solely due to parking? I live close enough to ride my bike or walk, so I don't want to take up a spot on the waiting list if it is okay to just show up if parking isn't needed.
