Judy is a Board Member and Treasurer of Final Exit Network. and also a member of Compassion and Choices.  She has cared about our right to “death with dignity” for as long as she can remember, joining the Hemlock Society sometime in the 70’s.  In the early 90’s Judy formed a Cincinnati Chapter of End of Life Choices (nee Hemlock) that unfortunately disbanded in 2007 for lack of interest. She attended the World Federation of Right to Die societies held in Toronto in 2006.

Her interest in death with dignity started when she gained first hand knowledge of how terminally ill patients were being kept alive in Intensive Care Units.  She was selling medical instrumentation that monitored these patients and set off alarms so “life saving” treatments could be administered if necessary.  Judy felt that many of these patients had no say in the care being given, no quality of life, no control over bodily functions, no dignity, and no hope of improvement.  She knew she didn’t want to live that way.

Judy has been trained as both a Caring Friend with Compassion and Choices and an Exit Guide with Final Exit Network.  Her role as a First Responder with Final Exit Network is what led to her home being raided by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in February 2009.

Judy grew up in Baltimore and is a graduate of Goucher College in Towson, MD.  She has an MBA from the University of Baltimore.  A company move brought her to Cincinnati where she has lived since 1981.

When is this group meeting ? I am A former Hospice worker and have worked in various positions in Long Term Care Facilities for over 20 years. I am and have always been a huge advocate for the elderly and frail elderly and I am a huge proponent of End of Life Dignity. This is something I would be very interested attending. Does anyone know if this is a current post? I have just joined meetup and I'm unfamiliar with how these things work.

Just an FYI - I am a Breast Cancer Patient Advocate [inactive] and have been a primary statistician working on Oncology trials for the past 15 years. I am a believer in the quality of life versus the quantity of time. I am appalled that the GBI would dare invade Judy's home - but having lived in Alpharetta and Atlanta northern suburbs - nothing surprises me at all. I hope to meet Judy and although I too fear what may happen to my clearance - I applaud her work.
