Humanists can't say as the religionists:" 20 little angels went to heaven today".  But we could say, let's get rational about gun control.
Look at the data:  fewer guns, fewer killings...!   Let;s make sure it doesn't happen again and increase our value of  living humans.
Life after death  is the one idea where  religions dominate.  It gives them power.    Unfortunately it cannot be proven false.
