Re: [atheists-662] Pope Francis. Is he relevant?

Ha ha. Of course the poll was non-scientific so the numbers may be skewed but they do reflect recent scientific polls, primarially from Pew Research. It wasn't that long ago 95% of Americans said they were religious with 90% saying they were Christian and of that almost 40% claimed to be Catholic. So there's hope? Dave

Did they adjust their numbers for those who were in a pool at work, betting on the outcome? :-)

With the election of the new pope, the News Journal/delawareonline, conducted a non-scientific poll with the results as follows:
"Are you paying attention to the papal election?"
1) Yes. I'm Catholic and it's important to me. 25%
2) Yes, but only from a historical perspective. 35%
3) No. I'm Catholic but, haven't been to Mass in years. 16%
4)  No, I'm not religious. 22%

It's interesting to note the percentage of non-religious is comparable to devout Catholics, 22% to 25%. Throw in the 16% and half of the 35%
and it may just be something's shaking out there which, of course, is all good. Dave
