2014 Denton County Spring Plant Swap

Thanks to Gretchen Wood we have the use of her neighborhood club house again!

Indian Creek Clubhouse
1689 Bandera Drive
Carrollton 75010
Cross streets are Hebron Parkway and Hunt Drive.

Restroom & full kitchen inside the building.

Swapping happens in the parking lot. Eating happens inside the building. Bring a snack to share and what ever you want to drink. We'll provide the paper goods and silverware.

If you want to be in on the "door prize" drawing bring a garden related thing (not a plant) and put a gift tag on it with your own name. We'll use the gift tags to draw names.

If this is your very first plant swap or you are a new gardener, you don't have to bring any plants. But you are encouraged to bring items you can trade with. (Candy, pots, soaps, lotions anything you are willing to trade for plants)

Please be sure to tell everyone that this is your first swap or that you are a newbie to gardening and you will see how nice everyone is and how they make you feel right at home.

I had a funeral to attend out of town and just got back so I'm not going to make it this time. However, I do have some iris that I will be dividing if anyone is interested. I rescued them from an abandoned church yard in Flower Mound. One is a cream color with a yellow/orange beard and it is a repeat bloomer with a honey scent. The other is white with purple falls and the third is a light purple color. I live in Denton.

Hi Green Thumb! I finally have the cream and white with purple out and ready to go. Please send me your address and I will send them off to you. My email address is [masked].

So sorry you couldn't make it Teresa. There was a great turn out.
We discussed having another swap possibly the 8th of June? So many people's volunteer plants haven't come up yet so we might all have more to trade/pass along by then. This has happened before so we might want to consider doing our swap a bit latter in the year than we have been doing it.
I'll post info about it once we've narrowed down a location and time.

Hi Shari, I haven't divided them yet, we started another garden project and hope to have that finished by the end of the week. As soon as I get to the dividing I'll let you know!

Thank you to Gail, Gretchen and all the wonderful fellow gardeners who left plants for me with Gail! I was unable to make it to the swap, but was really touched with all the gifts that people left for me :)

If any of you live in the North Dallas area (Plano, Allen, Richardson, Frisco, McKinney) and have extras that you want to share, please let me know. I can either come pick up or send postage for a box to be shipped.

Thanks to y'all, I now look forward to starting my garden in my new house :)

    Hello,
I am new to the plant swap... I live north of Denton but care for my Mom in Richardson... So, I will try to get by on the way back to her... I would love to trade but have very little growing this year...
Is anyone interested in growing 'cultures'? I have some water kefir grains and will bring some of the actual yummy ginger/lime and strawberry/ginger kefir water (healthy probiotic fizzy drink)..
I also have some aloe vera plants and film canisters for seeds. Oh, and if anyone wants to trade home made scarf for something....

That's great Juli! Its looking like its going to be a good swap. Don't worry about not having much, its been a slow cold spring and lots of my usual stuff hasn't popped up yet either. We may have to schedule another one early June? :)

My mother-in-law is coming, too, she might have some things to swap!

I'll have some pots and veggie seedlings to bring. Maybe some hand tools and a few other plants. I'm new to Texas so I don't have a whole lot in my garden, yet!

    Hi y'all!

We recently moved locally and I lost my entire garden (and sun room and pool). Anyway, now I am in a newer neighborhood with no trees or shade, and a west facing backyard. I am hoping y'all will help me rebuild it. I will make it up to you all next year.

melvalena has generously offered to collect plants on my behalf. If you have any perennials to share, please leave them with her. I would love daylilies, iris, dwarf cannas, passion vine, clematis, coreopsis, -anything variegated or dark leaved, for full sun.

    Thank you so much!

I am so excited to join the group! Thank you for being so warm and welcoming! Unfortunately, I wont be able to make it to the swap (kids soccer championship game). Bummed about it, but hopefully will meet up next time.

Gretchen I think a lot of us are in the same position. The late cold snap and cooler spring means a lot of our extra plants haven't broken ground yet!

    April 18, 2014

I won't have any plants to swap this time, although I have a lot of large plastic pots to get rid of and some yard art for the taking as well.

Kristy, I'm so sorry you won't be able to come.

This will be my first swap. Last year's Texas gardening for me was hit and miss. I will have to bring other things to trade that day. :)
