Her - UA Denver Pavilions, Thursday, January 16th at 6:45pm

  • Jan 16, 2014 · 6:45 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Her won our poll*, so it's our movie for this week. We will meet in the lobby of the UA Denver Pavilions 15 [masked]th St) at 6:45pm on Thursday, January 16th, for the 7:00pm showing. I'll be in the lobby holding the Denver Cinema Club sign for anyone who would like to join us.

After the movie, we'll go somewhere nearby for food and/or drinks.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Richard

*In actuality, Blue is the Warmest Color came on strong near the end and in fact tied in votes with Her (17 each). However, as host, I decided to go with Her over Blue for the simple fact that it has a much shorter running time. For all the Blue voters (including me), your voices have not gone unheard! If anyone would be interested in a special screening of the film this Saturday at SIE please message me and I'll pick a reasonable afternoon time for us to see it as a group (I'm going anyway). Happy hump day!

Brilliant film. Thought provoking in more ways than I can relate.

I really liked the way you discussed how this film demonstrated the importance of the mind and the body for a romantic relationship.

Thanks, that's very kind. It really was an amazing film that I can't stop thinking about.

Sorry, I cannot make this one. I didn't sleep last night and need to go home and rest. Hopefully, I'll catch the next one.

Jenn, you were missed. I hope you are well rested and feeling better!

Feeling better but sorry I missed it after reading all of the comments. I'm going to have to see this one soon.

Still not sure what grade to give it so I'll likely have to see Her again. The discussion afterward was particularly enriching. So much goes into a film. I was focused on the plot, but while discussing remembered that focusing the lens, word choice, hearing but not seeing characters, architecture, and blackout scenes are all done with purpose and amplify film as an artwork.

Movie provocative, discussion good quality, made me think some ways that had not occurred to me; only wish it were possible to find a discussion venue quiet enough to hear better, but such is life in the city.

Movies at other venues have allowed for some quieter dinner spots.

I was a rookie Meetup person that loved the experience. Thank you to everyone for being so nice.

Thought the movie was excellent. The creative talents that brought together this optimistic future were brilliant. Fascinating listening to the different perspectives of everyone afterwards at the sports bar. Everyone have a great weekend. Looking forward to more great meetups for cinema.

I do not go into downtown Denver for movies. The parking is a joke!

    January 15, 2014

    • Jenn K

I have never had a problem getting parking in the garage under the Pavilion and it is always free.

There is always light rail. I prefer other locations as well, but it's fun downtown once in a while. This group has fantastic discussions afterward which make even paying for parking worthwhile.

Wasn't sure if I could get off of work in time. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Maybe this group isn't for me. I do not do motion pictures in downtown Denver! There are other activities I would do downtown (actual live theater, baseball games, the 16th street) but not movies! I guess I will always be a suburbanite. You folks take care!

Jim, we frequently have meetups at other venues. Sorry to hear you are leaving due to the recent movies at the Pavillion. All of organizers live in central Denver. I am happy to allow anyone who wants to host a movie in the suburbs, as I've mentioned to you previously. But it's really organizers choice with regard to venue and we cannot please everyone. Take care!

Would love to see the film, but can't make the time work. Later will always be better for me on Thursdays or Saturday afternoon-evening flicks. :-) Enjoy!

Since "Blue is the Warmest Color" and "Frances Ha" are both at the SIE Film Center, I was going to suggest seeing both. But, then, I discovered that "Blue" is nearly 3 hours long. "Frances Ha" is a pretty late start time to allow for good discussion afterward so I'm okay with "Her", since that looks to be winning.

It's looking less and less likely that we'll be able to see 'Blue' as a group as it's probably going to stop running soon but on the bright side it seems there are plenty of good choices otherwise.

      January 14, 2014

Wow, great choices Richard! I can't decide what to vote for.

I can make the later films that I voted for, the earlier ones are too early for me to get to. I'll wait to RSVP when I see the outcome of the polling. Thank you! :-)
