Nebraska

Nebraska

Alexander Payne (The Descendants, Sideways) directs Nebraska, a bittersweet dramatic comedy about a father-and-son road trip through an emotionally and economically parched homeland. After receiving a sweepstakes letter in the mail, a cantankerous father (Bruce Dern) thinks he's struck it rich, and wrangles his son (Will Forte) into taking a road trip to claim the fortune. Shot in black and white across four states, Nebraska tells the stories of family life in the heartland of America. Stacy Keach, June Squibb and Bob Odenkirk co-star.

I love Alexander Payne's work - The Descendant's ought to have won Best Picture at the Oscars. And I wanna see it - but I hate Chez Artist - an awful location for me! COUNT ME AS "MAYBE."

I personally liked Tree of Life, Hugo and The Artist (which ended up w the Oscar) better but did think it was damn good.

I was pretty disappointed in the Descendants myself. The characters fell flat for me in that one and it didn't have the humor that Sideways and Nebraska did. I liked it ok but wouldn't have picked it for best picture.

I really enjoyed this one. As Larry mentioned, this had the right mix of humor and pathos. This is one of the best character films I've ever seen and if you liked Sideways, this one has some similarities. I felt like a really was in the Nebraska...or Michigan... or Illinois.

Fun movie; quirky. Hard not to like.

I can't make it...can't leave work yet. I'll have to try the Saturday movies instead.

Can't wait to see it! I hear Will Forte is great. But Bruce Dern.... it's funny. Don't really remember him being any kind of heavyweight (despite press hype to the contrary). I mean what's he been in? The Burbs? Middle Age Crazy? Seems like a real breakout role for the Hollywood veteran.

I just checked out the trailer and it doesn't look like something I want to see. Catch ya all next time.

I highly recommend Mandela and other members have been saying good things about Nebraska.

The story of "Mandela" starts rough, but keeps getting better and stonger throughout. The man's bio has to be simplified - this one stresses very libertarian themes. SEE the DVD or stream it when you can!

This director's other movies have been pretty good so count me in for this one as long as things don't get too crazy at work.
