12 Years a Slave - Mayan Theatre (110 Broadway) - 6:45pm

12 Years a Slave won our poll so it's our movie for this week! We will meet in the lobby of the Mayan Theatre (110 Broadway) at 6:45pm on Thursday, February 27th, for the 7:00pm showing. I'll be in the lobby holding the Denver Cinema Club sign for anyone who would like to join us.

After the movie, we'll go somewhere nearby for food and/or drinks.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

I have to give my own group 5 stars, right? The movie was incredibly powerful; don't mistake my emotional reaction for having not liked it. Steve McQueen puts slavery in your face, no holds barred and does not candy coat anything. A must see but only one time. I do not like to see human brutality against other humans, it is very painful for me. But I appreciate why the filmmaker chose to do so and I think some people benefit from the awakening this kind of film provokes. I suspect this will take Best Picture.

Sorry I didn't make it, had a Dr's appt that went long. I tried getting in to un-RSVP, but the site was unavailable. Hope you had fun.

The movie definitely makes one appreciate that we are born in a better time, but still, our time also have its own challenges. As usual, fun gathering after the movie. Looking forward to the next one!

Brilliant. Emotionally fatigued. But glad I watched it and did so with some discerning film-goers.

Well McQueen seems great although I haven't seen Hunger but loved Shame. Looking forward to this one as well.
