The Oscar Nominated Short Films 2013 - Mayan, 1:15pm and 3:45pm

Let's see the Oscar nominated shorts! I plan on catching both the animated shorts and the live-action shorts on Saturday afternoon at the Mayan. You're welcome to join me for both, or just drop by for one. Here's what the schedule looks like:

1:15pm: I'll be in the Mayan lobby holding the Denver Cinema Club sign.

1:30pm: The animated shorts start!

3:00pm: After the animated shorts, we can hang out at the Mayan bar, or get some coffee somewhere in the area.

3:45pm: I'll be in the Mayan lobby, once again holding the Denver Cinema Club sign.

4:00pm: The live action shorts start!

6:00pm: We find some place in the neighborhood to have food and drinks, and decide which shorts will win.

Note: Since the shorts tend to be quite popular, I'd strongly recommend purchasing tickets in advance.

Thank you, a completely enjoyable night - the different perspectives, the visual "travel", the mix of emotions - extraordinary!

It was great to see everyone and to get a chance to both sets of shorts. I loved the animated shorts especially. The Live Action proved to be difficult to take in all at once. It would be nice if things with a lighter tone could get nominated. Still, I am thinking about the "Lionfish" and laughing out loud. :)

You might have to call the theatre to tell someone you're ok with that. In any case I just called the theater and it looks like there's really no chance of the 4 o'clock show selling out so we should all be okay getting tickets.

      February 9, 2013

    • Kathleen

I can buy it from you Joan if the theatre's okay with that.

I'm just not gonna make it ontime myself, either, due to heavy workload. Hopefully less competition at the window for a ticket for those remaining, at least. Enjoy!

I just bough tickets for both shows through the website. http://www.landmarktheatres.com/Market/Denver/MayanTheatre.htm

I wish everybody a good time. These are some fine, short films. If we want to see the documentary shorts at SIE, may I suggest we do so in the next week or so? The weekend of the 15th has not yet been filled in on the SIE website's calendar; so, I'm not sure if the films will be there then. The documentary shorts program runs about 3:30. Again, enjoy the shorts on Saturday. The bar upstairs is nice.

I've set the event up for us to see the Oscar-nominated animated and live-action shorts at the Mayan this Saturday afternoon. The documentary shorts are playing at the Sie FilmCenter.

has any location been decided on for this event?

    February 6, 2013

I just finalized the details... We'll be seeing the Oscar-nominated shorts at the Mayan this Saturday afternoon.

I had a conversation with the manager at the Chez Artiste last night and he said the shorts will probably be playing there through the Oscar ceremony week. @ Dave- he also said the schedule should be posted tonight if you call the theater and press extension 7. I'll check it if I have time.

SIE's web site now shows the documentary shorts program begins on Friday 2/8 and runs through, at least, 2/14. It didn't show that a few days ago, so this is good news.

Showtimes are at 12:15 and 6:45 pm for the duration. The running time is 202 minutes (yikes! 3 hours and 20 minutes).
