Denver Cinema Club is a social group for people who enjoy independent, foreign, and other interesting films. We see a film about once a week, usually on Thursday night, and usually at one of the "artsy" theaters in central Denver: the Mayan, Chez Artiste, Esquire, or Sie FilmCenter. After the film we go to a nearby restaurant to have a drink, chat about the movie, and socialize. It's a diverse, friendly group, and everyone is welcome.
In addition to our weekly movie, we also have outings for special events: matinees, film festivals, trivia contests, Oscar parties, free screenings, etc. Watch your Meetup calendar for these, too.
We encourage group participation: we often poll the group to decide which film to see, we encourage members to organize outings of their own (see the Suggested Meetups tab), and we have a discussion board for any film-related topics you care to bring up.
Some details and suggestions:
• Everyone buys his or her own ticket at the theater, and we get separate checks at the restaurant. Occasionally, if we think a film might sell out, we'll suggest that you buy your ticket ahead of time.
• We use the RSVPs to determine how many seats to reserve at the restaurant, so if you RSVP "yes" and your plans change, please remember to come back and change your RSVP to "no."
• Some of the films we see aren't for everyone, so it's a good idea to do a little research before RSVPing. What you learn could make the after-movie discussion more interesting, too!
• We occasionally have events for free advance screenings, but we do this mainly as a perk for active members. If you want to go to the advance screenings, please join us for other events, too.
