Beginner ride down the Platte River Trail, 100% paved bike path, hybrid friendly

  • Apr 5, 2013 · 5:45 PM

I'll be riding my mountain bike to keep the pace down. We'll ride South on the trail, go under C470, and head West on the C470 trail for a mile or two. Should be about 12-13 miles round trip.

I'm going to schedule a couple more easy rides, but in a few weeks I'll step up the speed and distance to the 20 mile, intermediate, 15-17mph ride of last season.

I park in the Southeast corner of the parking lot, adjacent to the trail. We meet in the parking lot, not at Pedal bike shop.

A helmet is mandatory.

The following items are not required, but if you are going to start cycling, you should have these on your bike.

A saddle bag with:

1) Spare tube

2) Tire levers

3) Patch kit

4) Multi-tool

Water bottle cage(s), a bottle of water, and a tire pump.

This is the minimum you should carry to fix a flat on the road. A patch kit will take care of most flats, but it's easier to swap the tube and repair the old one at home. If anything loosens up on your bike, say a brake lever, shifter, or cable, you'll need the multi-tool to tighten it  and get you back on the road.

This was a great ride - thanks to all for looking out for all. Sorry I cannot make the next Friday ride but looking forward to more.

I've got to thank Chris S, Pam, German, Jim, and Ken for helping keep track of everyone. Thanks for helping with the flat, too. You guys are awesome.

Love how the leader and even other riders made sure no rider was left behind, helped another first timer with a flat. Good group and great first Colorado ride, I'll be back for sure.

I live in Broomfield and I've never done a meetup. I got my bike tuned up today, fixed my flat, got a new tube, and all the tools I need - just wish you guys weren't so far away!!
