20 mile, intermediate ride down the Platte River Trail, 17.0 mph upper limit.

  • April 26, 2013 · 5:45 PM

We will leave at 5:45 sharp!

Try to arrive at 5:30-5:40 so we can leave as close to 5:45 as possible.

I try to maintain a[masked] mph pace down the Platte Trail.  When I hit 17.0 mph, I reduce the pressure in the pedals. I've found the 17.0 mph upper speed limit is a good way to keep riders together with the broad spectrum of abilities we have in this group. The 17 mph limit has  some people pushing themselves, but it's not so fast that the ride is demoralizing.

RIDE DETAILS:

We leave Pedal bike shop, and head South on the Platte River Trail.  We pass under C470, turn right, then a quick left, and climb up the road to the top of the Chatfield dam. We regroup, then proceed into Chatfield. During this second leg, everyone rides at their own pace, sprinting to the turn around point, which is two parking lots at approximately mile 10. We ride back to the top of the dam, and when everyone arrives, we return to the bike shop at the 15-17 mph pace.

I would not classify this as a beginner ride.  While the pace is not especially quick, we must maintain the 15-17 mph window to get back to the bike shop before it gets dark.

I'll ride the first half with the group, then keep going since I live out that way.

Celtic Tavern after the ride for dinner? As of right now, highs are projected at 52-60 degrees.

Due to my job, I may or may not show up. My work is dependent on the weather and other factors. If I get off on time to meet, I will be there. Also, I live in Chatfeild so on your way out, I am actually returning.

If you can make it, great! Traffic alone can make people late, that's one of the problems of having an after work ride. If you're riding up from Chatfield, you might catch us on the trail on our way South.

I think we were riding at about[masked] mph. Most of the people that showed up were the regular riders from last year, so really the pace would not be too much faster. Last week was not really a "beginner" pace. You'll do fine.

Hey Chris, Would love to do this ride (missed it this Friday!), but right now only have the mountainbike. What was our speed window last week at the beginner ride?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
