20 mile, intermediate ride down the Platte River Trail, 17.0 mph upper limit.

  • July 19, 2013 · 5:45 PM

We will leave at 5:45 sharp!

Try to arrive at 5:30-5:40 so we can leave as close to 5:45 as possible.

I try to maintain a[masked] mph pace down the Platte Trail.  When I hit 17.0 mph, I reduce the pressure in the pedals. I've found the 17.0 mph upper speed limit is a good way to keep riders together with the broad spectrum of abilities we have in this group. The 17 mph limit has  some people pushing themselves, but it's not so fast that the ride is demoralizing.

RIDE DETAILS:

We leave Pedal bike shop, and head South on the Platte River Trail.  We pass under C470, turn right, then a quick left, and climb up the road to the top of the Chatfield dam. We regroup, then proceed into Chatfield. During this second leg, everyone rides at their own pace, sprinting to the turn around point, which is two parking lots at approximately mile 10. We ride back to the top of the dam, and when everyone arrives, we return to the bike shop at the 15-17 mph pace.

I would not classify this as a beginner ride.  While the pace is not especially quick, we must maintain the 15-17 mph window to get back to the bike shop before it gets dark.

I park in the Southeast part of the parking lot, next to the trail. We don't meet at the bike shop.

I may have to lag a bit, so not to worry.
