Triple Training (and anyone who wants get get a couple or 3 hours in on Sunday)

Planning to ride about three hours on Sunday, Feb 16th, weather dependent. Folks, you don't have to be training for the Triple to join us. Open to anyone who wants to get a couple or three hours on the bike on Sunday.

As a point of clairification, these rides are not intended to be hammerfests.  Rather, group rides where we can learn new routes, extend our riding time, learn to ride together...  Certainly, if someone wants a faster pace than the group, they can go...but why join a group ride and go off by yourself?  Usually if the group is big enough, it splits into faster and slower groups and we re-group at certain points. (but that's usually true if you get more than three riders together).  I've only ever left one person behind and they insisted that I go ahead, they knew the way. That being said, a 2 or 3 hour ride is not for beginners.  Those rides will be posted later in the spring.

Meet at Village Greens Park at 11 am.

This is the potential route on Sunday: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6203316

We can ride the route either way (clockwise or counter-clockwise).  One way has steeper hills than the other. :-)

    Hey Ken -

I'm pretty sure I ran over them thinking they were a speed bump in all of that wind! Thanks for organizing it David. Definitely a good challenge.

Yep. Same time, same place... Looking for the warmer days...

After looking at the map I did see a good way that will probably get me around 35. I'll just cut off on the c470 trail.

Hi David - It's looking good for me to be in town Sunday so I will plan on making your ride. Will see what develops on the route through the week. Thanks.

    February 10, 2014

  • Terri

I didn't see the map earlier but now I have I wonder if someone knows this area well enough that they can tell me a short cut to take to make it around 35 miles. I'm not familiar with this area of town.

    February 10, 2014

    • David R

Well...it's still early in the week. Let's see if anyone else is interested in doing a slightly shorter route. (Or maybe doing a pre-ride ride to get the extra distance in...)

      February 10, 2014

  • Ken

I just road that basic route yesterday. I live right by mile 15. Mile 15 to 28 is my goto route/loop when I have a quick hour to ride, a great section.
I need to ride three hours that Sunday per my training program/coach but only in HR zone 1 & 2, so a cruiser day for me. I can bring up the rear with a second group if my pace dictates one. :)

    February 9, 2014

    • David R

HA! My coach/training program has me doing a Zone 1/2 that day also.

      Cool!

      February 10, 2014

  • Terri

I'm not up to 3 hours right now but 2 hours or about that sound good so I would like to know the mileage and didn't see it listed above. Also it would be nice to know the pace you are aiming for. I'm not going to attend if it's a really fast ride.

    February 9, 2014

    • David R

The last ride we did on Jan 26, we averaged 13.9 mph. This should be about the same.

      February 10, 2014

  • Terri

    How many miles is it?

    February 9, 2014

    • David R

According to the map link above, it's about 45 miles

      February 10, 2014

  • Tammy

p.s. What are you thinking of in terms of pace?

    February 9, 2014

    • David R

Usually about 14 mph. The ride on Jan 26 ended averaging 13.9 mph ride time.

      February 10, 2014

  • Tammy

Hi David - I've ridden a large part of this route several times as it's near my house. I usually cross over Hess Road and go up to the top of Motsnebacher hill. Hess Road can be a pain in the bum in terms of traffic/head winds, just a thought. I'll know if I'm around/ in town by Thurs. Weather looks good so far. I'm probably looking for more of the 2.5 hr route so maybe cut out part of the reservoir loop as that's my thrice weekly lunch program.

    February 9, 2014

    • David R

It looks like Terri may want to do a little shorter ride too ( we all may want to cut off the loop at the end ) :-)
