Well folks it's time to get back on the bike again and test out your legs. Sunday looks perfect for a ride and if the winds are not too ferocious this will be a good intro to see where your fitness level is at.
We will start out at the intersection of Coalton Road and Rock Creek at the Safeway, then head east on Coalton past the Omni Hotel and up the hill. Once we get up to Hwy 128 it will be a small grade to Simms where we head downhill and work our way over to Alkire.
We will go up to 86th and take left on Indiana. There is a small shoulder on Indiana and we won't be on it long making a right on 82nd, with a few quiet roads over to 64th Ave. The route works it's way over to Easely Road and a loop to downtown Golden. From there it's up to the 7/11 and Conoco for a break at 22 miles.
The route will head up hwy 93 on a good shoulder for 5 miles and then turn back east on Leyden Road. The route essentially comes back the way we started for a grand total of 41.5
I will say that some roads still have some sand in places so you need to exercise caution, but by Sunday and drier weather I expect them to be pretty good. You should feel comfortable on quiet roads with smaller shoulders in spots. If by any chance the winds pick up over 15mph then I may change this at the last minute for a shorter ride and different route. Hope to see you there. Please check this website on Saturday for any changes.
Date: Sunday 16th
Place: Safeway - Coalton Road and Rock Creek Parkway
Time: Wheels rolling at 10:30am - please allow yourself time to get ready
Terrain: Rolling, Climbing, Flats
You should be an intermediate rider and be able to keep a pace of 15-16mph average over the course of the ride. We will regroup at times.
Turn-by-Turn Route Sheet:
Misc: Please ensure you have tube, pump or inflator, food, water, a couple of dollars for the 7/11 store or Conoco and adequate clothing.
This is my first ride in a while outside so I will be riding a moderate pace and enjoying the day.
Thanks - Ed
