(This is the topic originally scheduled for April 1)

Does navigating the world of social media make your head spin? Are you struggling to decipher the language and tools available, while trying to determine if or how you should get started? The program for this evening will begin with an overview of the most popular social media networks - LinkedIn, Facebook, twitter, Plaxo and YouTube. Then, we'll address the specific questions you have, or difficulties you're experiencing with your social media efforts. Be prepared to share, learn, and take home some practical tips to get started with, or improve, your online reputation.

This meeting is scheduled to replace the April 1 meeting that was snowed out. It is on a Wednesday, in the Perrin Room - please note the change.

_____

We'll be in the Perrin Room, so we can close the door and have all the room and quiet we need. If you're coming straight from work, you can pick up dinner close by to eat during the meeting. (Click here for restaurant list: http://snipurl.com/al...)

$$ As always, this is a NO SALE ZONE, and there is no fee to attend. $$ (Our Sponsor: Visibility Consultants, covers all the costs for you.)

The most important part of the meeting is open networking from 6:30 - 7:00 pm, so make sure you show up on time to make valuable connections. The formal meeting runs from 7:00 - 8:30, with open networking again at the end. Bring plenty of business cards and be prepared to meet some new power partners!

Marketing Materials Table: Bring your flyers, brochures, etc., to share with others.

Directions: The Englewood Library is in the Englewood Civic Center in the area you old-timers will remember as Cinderella City. One block east of Santa Fe on Hampden is Inca. Turn north on Inca, and take the first left into the lower level of the parking structure. The library entrance is on this level. The Anderson Room is in the southwest corner of the library.

Parking: Park your vehicle in the parking structure, and not on the street, so you don't have to worry about getting a parking ticket!

While the "drive through" would have enhanced the experience I nevertheless left the meetiing informed and unfortunatley adding a number of action items to my networking task list - thank you Barbara for sharing your extensive knowledge

Good content, casual presentation, good Q&A

Who attended?

  • 29 attendees
    •  Thank you Barbara Bailey for put this thing called Social Media Marketing into perspective for me.
    •  This was a very informative presentation. Barbara did a great job. And I made some new contacts - YEA!
    •  Thanks John & Barbara, I learned so much tonight. I really appreciate you holding this meeting. What a great group! Jo
    •  I enjoyed the presentation and met some great people.
    •  Great intro for people like me who know virtually nothing about social media.
    •  Networking was good - could be better if someone (John ?) moved people INTO the room instead of the natural congregation inside the door and in front of the table talking. Need visuals (handouts, powerpoint, etc) to solidify the takeaway. Presenter's style is "off-the-cuff" casual, somewhat disjointed - better organization would instill confidence in presenter's credentials and resulting contacts. Room was warm, with no water or air available for 30 people over 2.5 hours.
    •  Barbara did a great job giving an overview of the top three: LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter - there are so many - it's hard to cover in a short time - she did well; still leaving time for questions and discussion.
    •  Presentation was very informative, I am already putting stuff into practice. I was kinda distracted by someone texting on their phone during the presentation.
    •  It would have been outstanding to "drive through" some of the material while logged in to the applications.
    •  Ken, I have no idea why you chose to go thirsty when there's a sink in the meeting room and drinking fountains nearby. We also point out in the event description on the calendar, attendees may bring food and drink into the meeting; tonight, several people did. I'm sorry you didn't. Nobody complained about the room temperature. I was comfortable (but I was in shorts), so it didn't dawn on me that anyone was uncomfortably warm. There is a thermostat in the room, so I could have adjusted the temperature a bit. You never asked. You also weren't stuck in a stuffy room for 2 1/2 hrs; the meeting didn't even last that long. I was the last person out of the room at 8:50 PM, and you were long gone by then. We always appreciate constructive criticism, but we ask that you at least be accurate in your observations. Some of our speakers use more handouts and powerpoint presentations. Tonight's program was casual by design. I'm sorry to hear that you had such a miserable time.
    •  Barbara obviously really knows this topic well and it is one that we are all working on how to do a better job at without spending too much time on it. She had many good ideas that we can put right to use and I think we would all benefit from the list that she may post as well. At the first meeting I attended, I was very encouraged to take more risks in marketing. I made a lot of friends in YouTube as a result even though I don't make videos yet. It became my political and religious outlet. So you may not agree with everything that I have favorited or commented on, but you can see it at http://www.youtub... This meeting helped a lot more with how to integrate and use several sites to become better known.
    •  Although aware of it, I have yet to participate - but now I intend to explore it in the manner Barbara explained at the Meetup.
