According to Mary Bowling in a ClickZ article, "Even newcomers to local search recognize the Google 10 pack. When a searcher types in a query that Google interprets as a quest for something nearby, Google returns 10 very obvious Local Business Listings (listed as A through J) in the results. These appear adjacent to an eye-catching map and are usually just beneath the sponsored ads at the top of the page and above the organic Universal Search results." The Google Ten Pack is considered “prime real estate." But what is it that those ten sites have that your site might not have?

Our speaker, Liz Hamilton, an expert in internet marketing, will explain what the Google 10 Pack is, how to claim and enhance your listing to give you a jump start on your competition. You’ll want to RSVP early. But please remember, even though this meeting is free and you don't lose anything if you don't show up (except not being able to RSVP for future meetings until the day of), please be considerate of others if your plans change. Free does not mean "no value", this speaker is incredible and she normally charges a lot for her services - yet loves teaching others like us.
About Our Speaker, Liz Hamilton

Liz Hamilton’s involvement in the Internet industry goes back to 1997 when she joined BedandBreakfast.com, a leading online Bed and Breakfast directory, to create and manage a customer service department that would be dedicated to enhancing the customer service experience for innkeepers. The department focused on creating products and services to address their Internet marketing requirements.

Maia Internet Consulting, Inc. was formed in 2001 and today Hamilton continues to provide great customer service, products and education to the small business owner.

It's easy to get caught up in negative thinking, when you hear all the stories of gloom and doom in the media. Doing so, though, will not help you be successful. The right attitude can help you thrive while others give up and close shop.

Join us as Matt Motchkavitz, PhD shares his tips and tools for developing and maintaining an attitude of success. Dr. Matt will talk about how we create our thinking, understanding what "success" means, and how to keep your attitude up in spite of adversity.

About our speaker:

President/Founder of Excellence, Incorporated, Motchkavitz, PhD is an international speaker/trainer/coach with 30 years of speaking and training experience. He is the author of many of our one day training programs, The "Road to Wealth" two-day "no limits" program, and CDs and DVDs.

Matt is a therapist by training. He received a Ph.D. in Counseling from the University of Colorado in 1979. Since graduation, he has shared presentations with thousands of individuals in over 90 U.S. and Canadian cities, as well as Curacao in the Dutch Antilles.

THIS MEETUP HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO SNOW - we will reschedule as soon as possible.

Coca-Cola. Volkswagen. Apple. Nike. You.

Yes, individuals have brands, too. What’s yours?

Every day, whether you realize it or not, you are essentially displaying your own “logo.” It’s more than just your name or what you are wearing. It’s your total package, a value proposition that says I am worth knowing and worth interacting with.

So whether it’s how you speak, write, or dress; how you drive; where you use your cell phone; how promptly you return messages; how you ensure quality in your work; the respect you provide to others; the dignity you afford a stranger—the list is obviously long—your behavior and the results of the choices you make are your brand.

The concept of “Me, Inc.” is even more critical today than it was in the good old days when jobs were more secure, small businesses could get loans, and our 401(k) accounts were growing. A challenging economy provides all the more reason to care about your image and showcase your unique strengths to stand out from the crowd.

We'll enjoy some workshop exercises to make sure your brand is everything you need it to be.

About our speaker:

Susan Liehe has more than 30 years of increasingly senior communications experience with strong emphasis on the nonprofit sector and small business development.

Hats she has worn include vice president of public affairs as well as vice president of marketing . . . executive director of a foundation . . . director of public relations . . . spokesperson . . . keynote speaker/trainer . . . and director of creative services. She has both the imaginative skills to create excellence and the organizational ability to make things happen!

With increasing unemployment, more people are taking the plunge into the waters of small business ownership and entrepreneurship. We all make mistakes when starting out in business, so wouldn't you like to avoid some of the more common ones?

This month, our speakers will be Irv Ruppel and Bob Douthitt who are Business Counselors with the Denver Chapter of SCORE (http://www.scoredenver.org/). SCORE, Counselors To America's Small Business, is an Association with 370 chapters and 800 branches nationwide. The Denver Chapter provides free small business counseling and low cost training and education focused on small business ownership.

Irv and Bob will talk about some of the more common mistakes made by small business people. More importantly, they'll discuss ways to avoid making those common mistakes.

After we hear from Irv and Bob, we'll have time to troubleshoot specific problems that members may have.

Of course, we'll also have plenty of time for networking. Early networking starts at 6:30 PM. We'll also have time to network after the brainstorming session.

Our Speakers:

Irv Ruppel has been very active in the Denver small business community; he was a very successful small business owner for over 50 years. He has worked with small business owners from start-up through mature phases, including buy-outs. He has also been a facilitator for the Dale Carnegie Courses. Irv is an accomplished presentor and he enjoys helping others achieve their business goals and personal dreams.

Bob Douthitt owns his own successful small business. He balances the challenges of managing and growing his own business, his family life and helping other small business owners by volunteering in SCORE. Bob enjoys helping prospective small business people through the beginning stages of the start-up process. He also works with owners of existing small businesses to help them make critical operating and marketing decisions as their businesses grow and mature.
