Which Denver Film Festival Spanish language film would you like to see (see email for movie times)?

Under the Same Moon (La Misma Luna) ? A heartfelt family drama and commentary on illegal immigration, the film portrays obstacles of a loving mother and son: while Rosario struggles to provide for Carlitos as a cleaning lady in L.A., the 9 year old sets out from Mexico to find her. Solitary Fragments (Soledad, La) - Beautifully nuanced acting and a daring visual style. The lonely plight of a single mother parallels the struggles of a female-dominated clan whose long-suffering mother labors to keep the peace. The Rind (La Cáscara) - Hearkens back to the 1940s-era farces of Preston Sturges even as it situates within South America's rich tradition of magic realism, The Rind is an amiable black comedy about a corporate minion in existential crisis. The Orphanage (El Orphanato): (late shows); What lurks in corridors of a crumbling old former orphanage that one-time resident Laura and her family are turning into a home for sick children? The answer makes for a ghost story.

Should we seek one or two sponsors to pay for our meetup costs?

It costs $12 a month or $144 to pay for our meetup costs every year. Over the last 18 months, I've asked for donations from individual members to cover those costs. A recent idea is to seek relevant sponsors such as Museo de las Americas or Cultural Legacy bookstore to support our costs. It wouldn't be an advertising blitz, but periodic announcements of events (i.e. Museo's art openings, a Latino author at Cultural Legacy, etc.). If we don't go the sponsorship route, I will expect more people to step up and donate, but I do think having sponsor(s) is sustainable.

Are you interested in regularly attending a Spanish meetup in Boulder?

A couple of members have asked about meetings in Boulder. Our focus has been on Denver, but if there is interest and someone is willing to be the organizer for Boulder, there's no reason that we couldn't add Boulder meetings/events. We need to see if enough people would be interested in attending meetings regularly before going forward with this effort.

What other June event should we add?

Seems like we should be doing more than merely meeting a couple of times a month to converse in Spanish. So based on poll results, we'll pick one additional event and schedule something new. We'll try to keep the conversation in Spanish, and except for the picnic, we'll stop for lunch or dinner before the events.

Best park for a group picnic?

I am trying to plan for an end-of-summer Spanish picnic/potluck & would like everyone's input on which park would be the best place to have our fiesta.
