Deathwatch 40K RPG

Exploring the idea of running a DeathWatch game monthly or bi-weekly on Friday nights.

The session on the October 4th will be at Shieldbreakers.

The tone will be heroic roleplay as a Space Marine Deathwatch squad caught in various bad situations. Roleplaying will be the focus, with plenty of action to keep the story moving. Serious enough to be interesting but not bogged down with minutia of the 40K universe.

Create your own beginning Deathwatch Space Marine, or use one of my pregens. Play your chapter the way you want, but all chapters will be considered equal. No Grey Knights please, they factor into the story later. Rivalries welcome but no PVP. You can’t ‘win’ Deathwatch unless the team wins, so please no power gamers.

Rules taught. I’ll have copies of the rules so no books necessary. Newbies willing to contribute to the team welcome.

Now that was a great ending. The BadA-- DeathWatch not looking at the explosion as they dropped the freight elevator on the Demon Prince. I'm sure he made all kinds of revenge plans on that long, long, 1+ km drop to the surface...

Great session and hope to see you all next time.

Will we be rolling characters when we get there? I see that DW uses rolled stats, so I was wondering if we should roll everything up or put that together when we meet.

If I have the time, I'll sketch out a pair of characters (they'll be the same character, just built as a librarian and an assault marine), and I'll roll with the AM if the librarian is a mess :P In any case, he'll be a very pious/dogmatic Blood Angel :D

P.S. I know that a few others were considering tac marine characters. If anyone does want to take the squad leader/cohesion points/fellowship roll, I'd be willing to roll a tac marine to do it. My only question would be if the character's dogmatism would make difficult to get along with in the anti-dogma game (which would be ironic for the unit cohesion guy).

    I'll see you guys tonight.

Go ahead and make your character ahead of time, or you can use the pre-gen I'm making. You can either roll or use the point buy system, but as long as your rolls look reasonable they will be fine.

I'm not going to put a whole lot of work into the pre-gens. If you use them I'll let you flush them out.

Sorry for the last-minute post; I haven't looked at this group in a long while. I know that the game is tomorrow and that you already have 4 players, but I was wondering if you guys would be open to a 5th. I'm a huge 40k fan from way back, though I haven't had the chance to play 40k or an RPG is a long while. I haven't played Deathwatch (or any of the sibling games), but I could take some time to get a basic sense for the rules by tomorrow.

The thread interface on this site is a bit confusing, but I'd love to play a librarian if that's still an option. As for a chapter, Blood Angels would likely be my first choice (I'm assuming that there are rules associated with chapters, though I have no idea what they are.

If you'd be open to it, please let me know. Thanks guys.

Looks like Pooley contacted you in 2011 about the Mechanicus Explorato game I ran for a time.

If you want to play the librarian, I'm good with that. We'll see how it goes.

We probably need a PC to be the squad leader with a high fellowship and command skill. This does not have to be the 'leader', meaning this person will not tell the players what to do, but will have the cohesion points for the party.

If no one wants to be the 'leader', or we can't easily agree on the leader, I can create an NPC.

Also, I'm not planning for their to be a librarian in the party. If you want to play a librarian, post up and I'll prepare.

    Looking forward to the game!

Hmm, two Dark Angels being lead by a Space Wolf. Not sure about the history of the Ash Wolves; are you going to play to standard character or against character type. The Angels of Absolution, for example, are not the typical morose of the Dark Angels; they are sort of the anti-Dark Angel / Dark Angel Chapter.

I'm not 100% sure about what I'll play; I may bring more then one character (ie Guardian, Novamarine, Errant) and see which fits the feel of the party best.

Homunculus,The Ash Wolves are similar to the Space Wolves in their outlook. Brother Theoric (my character) is gregarious; he lives his life joyfully because he knows he'll die in the Emperor's service and hopefully inspire some epic tales.

Okay, here is a little about equipment. I don't usually worry too much about gear, but if you want to, within reason, that is great.

    So basically:
Astartes power armor, Astartes Bolt pistol, 3 Astartes frag grenades, 3 Astartes Krak grenades, Astartes combat knife.

Equip an appropriate weapon to your specialty. Give yourself 30 requisition to upgrade to power melee weapon, or upgrades for your ranged weapon.

Give yourself one master-crafted something. Don't worry about renown.

The point here is to have gear that makes sense for a Deathwatch squad that just came off of a kill team mission.

Are we using the set Deathwatch gear rules or the optional Errata? The damage and status of the bolters changed alot in the Errata.

      Thanks!

I guess we should use the Errata.

Oh yeah, I'll be bringing my Space Marine mini's, but if you want to bring yours that will be great.

Standard rules for beginning Deathwatch marines are good. Everyone gets three fate points and max hit points. Equip your marines reasonably, like they just came off of a Kill Team mission. I'm not going to worry about ammo very much, but I will worry about consumables, i.e. grenades, etc. I've got a couple of other bonuses I'll be putting up later.

Any house rules, skills or modifications we should be aware of? Or just use the standard Deathwatch rules/books? Thanks

I've decided on Shieldbreakers, at least for this session on the 4th.

The description says either Shieldbreakers or Hobbytown in Westminster. Have you settled on one?
