Storytelling Systems Roundtable

There are a some great systems out there like World of Darkness and Dresden Files that are fun Storytelling game systems. They require a different roleplaying technique than typical DnD systems and can be extremely rewarding with a fun group of people.

This is an attempt to get people together to talk about storytelling game systems and generate interest in starting a group or helping other groups test the waters of these game systems.

Hey there everyone! This meetup went great! I was a forgetful host and didnt write diwn who all arrived, but we had about 6 people show and share great ideas for gaming :) We are going to try and set up a saturday gaming group to try out some of the systems that were discussed. Keep an eye out for an upcoming saturday storytelling game group coming soon!

Hey everyone! I know that not all players are in the downtown area, so I was going to make a second meetup event for Storytelling games in another part of the city. SO - where is everyone at? I was kinda under the assumption that there might be a lot of players in the Aurora area and maybe north of Arvada...

Can anyone not make it to this event due to location?

I'm actually quite happy we're holding this event in Denver - I've found that a lot of groups play in the suburbs, and for a schlub like myself who uses public transportation to get around, it can be a little hard to coordinate gaming with things like work. SO, if anyone were to want to start a game in Capitol Hill (or somewhere in the surrounding neighborhoods), I would be more than thrilled.

Great! And if you like the things you see in the storytelling systems out there, then we might have a weekend group for ya in that area, cheers!

Wish I could show (still interested). Remember, if you ever manage a game on Monday or Tuesday, I could probably make it

It has been known to happen :) I will let others who show up to the meetup event know, and maybe we can encourage other groups to start storytelling as well!

When I hear "Storytelling Games Systems" I think of Fiasco, The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchhausen, In A Wicked Age, and Microscope. Perhaps Dresden and WoD require more than just "what do I roll to hit" but you can play D&D as something other than hack-n-slash as well (at least that used to be the case).

Yes! DnD, and any system in fact can be played in a myriad of styles. We will be talking about Storytelling in general and we will talk about some of the game systems that best support that style of play. :) And yes, some of those works do make sense for a Storytelling game, well put! We will also go into character and group dynamics in storytelling games, and its quite different than in plan jane dungeon crawls.

I don't have a ton of roleplaying experience, but this sounds interesting. I'm (tentatively) in.

Have you heard of Numenera? I think it'd be a perfect candidate for this discussion. It's a relatively new system, but from what I've read, it's pretty fantastic.

Yes! I was a backer for the kickstarter and have the PDF versions of the game. I have not read through it yet, so I will make a point to try and do so before the meetup. :)

I'm going to try to come, but I'll be late and I have to bring my 8mo daughter

    October 5, 2013

    • Renley

I will try to set out a block of time so that I am there for any latecomers. I can't guarantee how late this will go, but I will try to stay late as well as keep an eye on my email for messages. :) Just an FYI, the Irish Snug is a pub/restaurant. They do have a very nice downstairs area that has a more secluded space I will try to grab for early.
