John Wren has requested that the Cafe ponder the meaning that the Christmas story has for contemporary American culture.  We clearly see that it is "a triumph of consumerism".  It is more politically correct to speak about the "Happy Holidays".  Does this holiday time have the same meaning for families and children as in past times?  An advantage people of the Orthodox Christian faith had was two Christmases - December 25th Gregorian Calendar and December 25th Julian Calendar.  So for the Julian Calendar date the commercialism was over.  Please also note the change of meeting time back to the 7:00 pm starting time.  Of course, there will be no meeting on Thanksgiving evening.  There have been many commentaries in novels and movies about families and Christmas.  What, if anything, has changed for you.  I am hoping this might bean opportunity for the Cafe to "gather together".
