Boulder Potluck w/ Special Guests Alka Chandna & Jessica Sandler of PETA

We're joining our friends in  Boulder (and Beyond!) Vegan Meetup for this special presentation given by Boulder's very own superstar for the animals, Jessica Sandler, along with very special guest and pioneering animal rights advocate,  Dr. Alka Chandna. Their presentation will be  “Snappy Comebacks: Answering Tough Animal Rights Questions”.  Jessica and Alka will speak for about 25 minutes, followed by plenty of time for questions. This is going to be a lot of fun and I know we'll all walk away with some great tips on "snappy comebacks" to all those never ending (and admittedly sometimes annoying) questions that come up from friends, family and colleagues. See below for their bios, and RSVP early as this will fill up.

If you're interested in carpooling, add a comment indicating whether you can drive or need a ride, and where in the metro area you live.

For the potluck part:

Let's get together with others in the veg community to share some great food and meet new friends.

You do not  have to be vegan or even vegetarian to attend, but we bet you will want to be after you eat all the fabulous food that is out there (and meet the greatest folks as well).

Please bring a plant based dish (no animal products, including honey) to feed 8, with recipe card and ingredients and your own table setting and serving utensils for your dish (to cut down on waste). Feel free to call or email if you have any questions or need directions, recipes etc.

If hearing Jessie and Alka weren't enough to get you to come out for this special meetup maybe knowing that we will all have the new Tofurky pot pie, Pockets and Quiche to sample will add more enticement. These new products are slowly hitting market shelves now but we will be first to try these great new vegan offerings.

BIOS on our speakers:

Dr. Alka Chandna is PETA’s laboratory oversight specialist and is responsible for filing complaints against laboratories leading to fines being issued against them and forcing laboratory oversight bodies to fulfill their legally mandated responsibilities.  In just one instance in 2010, after Alka wrote PETA’s complaint against Professional Laboratory and Research Services, the North Carolina-based contract animal testing facility surrendered nearly 200 dogs and more than 50 cats and shut its doors.

Jessica Sandler is the senior director of PETA’s Regulatory Testing Division and PETA’s International Science Consortium, overseeing an international team of scientists, policy advisers, and attorneys who work with regulators, companies, and scientists to develop, implement, and promote high-tech, non-animal testing methods. Jessica has negotiated landmark agreements that changed U.S. and European Union chemical-testing policies and saved millions of animals from painful and lethal chemical toxicity tests.

pt2: loved hearing from the young film makers and completely admire their decision to document the plight of our fellow earthlings to present to the general public. Bravo on that!!! The church that was offered as the site of the potluck was AMAZING!! Thank you to everyone who arranged that and put such a beautiful touch to this important event. I was glad to meet so many new people and see some dear friends. I look forward to many more of these gatherings in our thriving community. There is definitely a very positive vibe here!!

Thank you to everyone who made this such an awesome night of food, fellowhip, and connection. I completely enjoyed the presentation by PeTA staff and loved how they gave us tips on remaining calm and positive when trying to deal with the same old questions meateaters try to throw at us to get us off the message!! All of the responses were truly on target and devised to speak to the "audience" on their terms--not confrontational or patronizing. Thank you, Alka and Jessie!!

What a wonderful event, with practical, down-to-earth activist advice from voices of long experience. Loved all the samples of new products, and the great food in general!
