Broncos vs Chef's - All we're trying to do is win "2" (Expletive) Games!

Alright DC family! I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving with family and friends and moreover, watching the BEAT DOWN of the NY Giants. Just one more thing to be thankful for. This will be a decently long email just to get some factoids and personal thoughts about the season thus far just as an fyi. So here goes: 1. If Josh McDaniels had a signature move through the entire offseason it would NOT be getting rid of Jay Cutler or Benching Brandon Marshall. The best move that could have possibly been made was the immediate signing of Brian Dawkins. In my opinion, he probably, single-handedly saved our season as well as our playoff aspirations. His leadership in the locker room and on the field is the reason for our success thus far and the absence of that leadership is what lead to our collapse last year and years prior. He is what we left behind when we moved on from John Lynch. The sense of pride and responsibility that he instills in young players is almost immeasurable. There is not enough said and probably cannot be enough said about Brian Dawkins as a man and a football player on and off the field. And oh by the way, did you see how he played on the field, there is nothing more inspirational that him taking someone out! 2. Here is an interesting quote I have found from Brian Urlacher, outside linebacker and leader for the Bears: “Look, I love Jay, and I understand he’s a great player who can take us a long way,” Urlacher told Yahoo.com. “But I hate the way our identity has changed. We used to establish the run and wear teams down and try not to make mistakes, and we’d rely on our defense to keep us in the game and make big plays to put us in position to win. Kyle Orton might not be the flashiest quarterback, but the guy is the winner, and that formula worked for us. I hate to say it, but that’s the truth.” And he is absolutely right, he is not flashy or pretty in how he goes about making the things necessary, but in the end, he is still a winner. And the players believe in what Orton can do and really that is all that matters on the field. As I stated before, we were almost in the same position last year in the downward spiral, however, I don't feel Jay Cutler would have done enough to augment the message Dawkins is trying to send. 3. Injury Report RT Ryan Harris is back at practice after he's been sidelined with a dislocated toe which is very encouraging news. Pass protection was a HUGE issue during the Baltimore and Pittsburgh games and he is a pro bowl material...it should allow Orton to have even more time for him to find Marshall so he can make more ridiculous catches. Eddie Royal is back at practice...enough said! 4. This is where we stand in the whole scheme of things with 5 games left in the season: We are the 5th wild card seed with a 7-4 record with Jacksonville being the 6th seed at 6-5. Pittsburgh and Baltimore are both 6-5 on the outside looking in. San Diego is 8-3 but does have a tough 3-game schedule after this week, more on that later. Our last 5 games are @KC, @Indy, Oak, @Philly, KC. Again, I still stress 1 game at a time, but if you want to look ahead, here is my take. WE SHOULD, emphasis on SHOULD win 3 out of 5 of those games. HOWEVER, let me state this game in KC will be a HUGE test which is why I encourage EVERYONE to come out to Penn Quarters to support your home away from home. Reason being is that the Broncos have a 1-15 record all time at games in Dec IN KC....yes, you heard right, 1-15 with that 1 win coming to not Shanahan or Reeves, but Wade Phillips of all people....no seriously, Wade Phillips haha. Anywho, this game will test how committed the Broncos are to making it to the post season and will continue to determine how we evolve our identity. I will still stay that were are completely capable of winning at Indy and at Philly and if you watched how either of these teams played over this past weekend, there is your answer. Indy is a 15th in the league in run defense and even worse in pass defense...if we continue to grind it out like we did against the Giants, I will not be surprised. With Philly, their inconsistency is what kills them and I think McDaniel's knows how to exploit that and Champ blanketing DeSean Jackson, but that is too far into the future. Lastly, in the game with the Giants, Dumervil was unleashed again. He lined out again all over the place instead of being put into pass coverage and became the pressure/sack master once again. BTW...he is the NFL leader in sacks with 14 and Jared Allen trails him by 2 sacks. If saw any of the KC game, you saw what the Charger defense was able to do combined with McDaniels knowledge of Matt Cassel's short-comings...I am excited. 5. Lets get to the chargers 3-game stretch. Dallas, Cincinnati, Tennessee...some pretty big names as of late, most of whom are fighting for playoff position so DO NOT count us out of the ability of winning our division. There is a lot of football left and like Thursday night, we, as the Broncos, control our own destiny. 6. Shannon Sharpe and Terrell Davis are part of the 25 semi-finalists to make the Hall of Fame...stay tuned! Well that's all for now if that wasn't long enough for you all. I hope the week treats you well and I will see you at NOON at Penn Quarters cause we all know that seats go fast. Take care and as always: I am a Broncos fan and I believe. I believe in Mile High Magic and Bleed Orange and Blue. I celebrate the drive and the Mile High Salute. I create the THUNDER, share in the common dream and will forever be a proud citizen of BRONCOS COUNTRY! Cheers Ron
