Desperation level- infinite Denver Broncos vs San Diego Chargers

Does it all come down to this game? Not mathematically but it's almost a certainty the Broncos will have wrapped up the AFC west title and a home playoff game with a win on Sunday. At 6-3, the Broncos hold a 2 game lead over the chargers who are 4-5. A win puts the broncos at a 3 game lead and really, and effective 4 game lead with the for sure head to head tie breaker if they would end the season with the same record. Everything for the Chargers is at stake with this game and one would expect them to lay it all out on the field in Denver. It makes the team very desperate and very dangerous coming in. Although most analysts have picked the Broncos to win, this game is NOT IN THE BAG. What has killed the Chargers as of late are two things, Phillip Rivers and his ill advised interceptions and lack of a running game. The chargers have a formidable defense, ranking 6 as the Broncos rank 5th. What it lacks is the offensive fire power of a true elite team, the broncos rank 2 putting up about average of 30 points a game. So why will we win and what makes me feel the Broncos can run the table, as I usually do, let's discuss statistics and game eval: Offense - As stated, the broncos have the #2 offense in the league lead by Peyton manning who is playing out of his mind. He is completing 70% of his passes to a tune of 2700 yards, 21TDs to 6 Int with #1 QB rating of 108.0. he has only been sacked once in the past 4 games and the offensive line is giving up lowest sack percentage in the league. DT is #4 in receiving yards with a whopping 16.5 yards per catch. Decker is also in the Top 20 and with him and stokley being favored as red zone targets. Many people are knocking on McGahee for a lack luster running game, but actually he is having a better season this last year and is on pace for over 1200 yards this season. In addition, he is HUGE in protecting manning as a blocker and is the predominate check down receiver for manning when crossing rounds, slant rounds and deep passes are available. Yes, his fumbling is an issue, but we said the same thing about DT and he's taken care of his issue, I'm sure mcgahee will correct his. In 2005 when we went to the AFC championship, we only average 24 points per game. We are seeing an offensive surge that puts us toe to toe with Green Bay, New England and the Saints in terms of offensive prowess. Defense - what Peyton manning has meant to this team is immeasurable but now is becoming extremely evident on defense as well. How? Take the Carolina game for example, an early methodical march down the field with an easy score could have demoralized the defense in the past, but with manning able to execute a counter score, Cam Newton never saw the light of day again. The ferocity and tenacity of the defense is of the Orange Crush of old. Leading with Von Miller the potential defensive player of the year who has 10 sacks (.5 behind JJ watts for the lead) and is tops in other stats including tackles for a loss and QB hits/hurry, mind you, he's doing this with a double team. Dumveril is also playing lights out with 7 sack and 5 forced fumbles. Even though he is "injured" it is a shoulder strain and should be questionable for Sunday, but do you know who his replacement was? Robert Ayers, remember that name / 1st round pick who lived up to his potential played very admirable and tenacious with a sack and tackles for loss in the last game. Lets not forget Derrick Wolf who is the unsung anchor for the front 4 who commands a double team and continues to improve with his relentless motor. The defense is playing without fear or hesitation, but is also playing with precision and cohesiveness of which we have not seen in more than a decade. Let me not forget to mention Tony Carter and Chris Harris who have elevated their games to astounding levels for 2 year players taking out some of the best receivers in the nfl. Special teams - who is Tindon Holliday? He is the completer piece, that's who. He is the Darren Sproles of the Denver broncos at 5'7 170lbs of lighting that has jump started the broncos return game scoring two TDs in the past 2 games and averaging over 11 yards per return. He has taken the broncos return game from abysmal to feared in 2 games. In addition, britton colquitt continues to knock punts out of the park with about 47 yards netted per punt with 18 of his 37 punts landing inside the 20 and only 67 total yards of return through 10 games. So why do I give you all this info, it seems like alot of numbers and statistics but how does that actually translate into wins? The completeness of what the broncos are doing overall all being within the top 10 of almost every statistical category is completeness, but the continue to evolve and are evolving exponentially before our eyes. Manning has provided the conduit of accountability and sustainability in all phases of the game. Tebow elevated the moral and sense of belief in the Broncos, but Manning reached new heights of discipline, pride, steadforwardness and a clear path to what's necessary to win not just here and now, but every game played. The Broncos are not the same team the chargers faced 3 games ago, we have evolved into something they will regret to have unleashed all those weeks ago. The Broncos will feast on the chargers desperation as their next 3 opponents are Bengals, Steelers, Ravens and they will be looking to tht as the reason to win, we will be looking to beat down the opponent in front of us in mile high to continue our dominance and command the respect Manning has afforded us. I am Broncos fan and I believe. I believe in Mile High Magic and Bleed Orange and Blue. I celebrate the drive and the Mile High Salute. I create the THUNDER, share in the common dream and will forever be a proud citizen of BRONCOS COUNTRY! See you Sunday, GB2 - Ron
