This ride is intended for people who like to climb and can keep a 18-20mph pace on the flats.
We'll start at REI and then head west on 23rd and turn right just before Sloan's Lake and proceed up to 26th.
We'll take 26th up to Simms and turn right.
Turn left onto 32nd and follow it until the we enter Golden and turn right by the Coor's factory onto Ford Street. Just up the road we'll turn right before the monster hill and then a quick left onto the bike path.
The bike path intersects Golden Gate Canyon Road (the sign says Mesa Drive). Head west on the road for some great climbing to the visitor's center.
This is a rather strenuous climb with some quick descents. Mapmyride says there are 4 rated climbs on this route.
**We will regroup along the way to Golden Gate Canyon Road. BUT, once we start climbing this will become a drop ride.
It's going to be hot, so make sure you have plenty of food and water. We'll probably stop at the gas station in Golden for a top up, and this is the last water before the visitor's center.
Here's a map:
Please note: The map is not identical to the directions I gave above. There are numerous variations for the route to Golden, but this gives a general idea.
