Tour de Genesee 32 or 52 miles

 Hi Folks:

After my Castle Rock ride, some folks asked for something a bit more challenging. So here it is - the Tour de Genesee.

Let me say first of all that this is an advanced ride with lots of climbing and varied terrain. I designed this route with several options so that you can complete this at any pace and have options to make it hard or easier. Please take time to review the ride description and map prior to coming on this ride.

How many of you have done Genesee, Mt. Vernon and Lookout in reverse?  All options of this ride will begin at Rooney Road and work their way to Hwy 40.  On Genesee Ridge Road, the harder route sinks deep into Genesee via Montane Dr and climbs out Foothills to Genesee Vista Road while the easier way is straight across.   Both routes will meet up at the Genesee Store by the Charthouse.

The harder route continues climbing Mt. Vernon , then drops down to Lookout Road and climbs up to the top of Lookout Mtn / Boetcher, while the easier version skips the Mt. Vernon section but still goes up Mt. Vernon. The harder route will go into Golden and loops north to 58th / Easley and back through town via 10th street ,Jackson to 6th ave while the easier route skips the Golden section and goes up 6th ave.  Both routes will go through Red Rocks at the finish. If  you are riding the 52 miles and skip the Golden loop you can turn right on hwy 6 and still end up with 40 miles.

What this ride lacks in distance it makes up for in difficulty in all versions. Make sure your bike is in good operating order and that you are ready for some great riding.  This is a strong ride so please be prepared.

This is also a combined meetup ride and open to North Colorado Springs Cyclists

I hope you can join me if you haven't already made plans....

Date:        Saturday September 7, 2013

Rain Date: Sunday September 8, 2013

Ride  time: 9:00am Please be on time and ready to ride

Staring Location: Parking lot across from the Circle K at the intersection of Rooney Road and Morrison Road.  Please arrive early to find parking.

Distances:

32 - 40+ You can skip the lower part of Genesee and Golden

52 - You can do the full meal deal option

Terrain: Both rides will have a lot of hills and climbing that will tax your legs and mental endurance. I made 2 options so you can bail midway if you don't have the legs.

Sweep: There will not be a designated sweep. You should be self-sufficient and able to change a flat if needed.  I may not do the lower part of Genesee, we will see how my legs are on game day.

Pace: As always, this is whatever you wish to do. I am going to ride a moderate pace. Rides like this usually break up into smaller groups- especially on the hillier sections. I expect there will be an early morning breakaway - but remember they hardly ever succeed. lol

Weather: If it is raining - the ride will not go on Saturday but will be rescheduled for Sunday. Check the meetup site the morning of the ride to see if the ride has been cancelled.

Email:   ebidinotto at gmail dot com

Call me if needed:

Misc: Please bring a good attitude, a few bucks for the Genesee store, whatever you need to change a flat, and dress appropriately.

Post Ride Activities:  Margaritas and chow at the Morrison Inn

The ride sheet is posted under main menu: MORE > FILES

http://www.meetup.com/DenverFrontRangeCycling/files/

Please print your own copy since there are many turns - I will have a few extra ride sheets at the start for those who forget.

Hopefully no one will get lost along the way and we will all be safe and have a good time and enjoy a few margs at the finish.....

See you there....Ed

Nice ride. Did the longer route on some new roads for me. Very cool. Good elevation gain too. Enjoyed riding with the veteran break away group. Will drive next time so I can stay for margs/beers.

Linda...no problem see you next time. The shorter option is really not intense at all and it still gives you a great workout and good scenery.. but in any case - see you next time.

Hi Ed, I have a prior commitment Sat. afternoon and was wondering about the two routes and time they may take to complete. I realize it depends on the rider, but your best guess for average speed guy. Thanks in advance.

Hi Curt if you go out and go up hwy 40, go up lookout and down and back around - you don't have to take red rocks on the way back - you can go down the hogback.... If you are doing 32 miles - give yourself 3 hrs.. at least that's what i would figure.

If you are thinking about the anything related to going down Montane and up mt Vernon and up lookout and doing the loop around Golden then that is a more adventurous day

Hi Brenda - there are so many options on this ride you can bail at many points but I'm sure you can do at least 32. It's only advanced because of the hills..

JoAnne and Linda.... there are several folks who want to do 32 or 40.... and lots of folks who won't be riding fast. I will see at the beginning of the ride who wants to ride less mileage then the ones who want to do more/advanced can do that as an option.

I wouldn't worry about being slower it will work out

Hi JoAnne, I will be riding the shorter distance and my pace will be slower than snail, have not been riding much lately. Linda

I've updated a few things in the description so please check it out. IF you are riding the 52 miler and want to bail at Golden you can turn right and head up hwy 6 and back via Heritage Drive, hwy 93, Red Rocks and still get in a solid 40 miles. There are many options for these rides and I put a lot of thought into how everyone can have fun and possibly meet up along the way. If you are interested in leading a 32 or 40 mile variation, please email me. I'm looking forward to some great weather, fun riding and a marg or two at the finish on the Morrison rooftop.

This sounds like a great ride. Lots of pain and suffering. Not sure if I will be able to hang with the break-away group for all 52 miles... ;0)
