A year ago, one of the things I vowed to do was create a path to success for all levels of cyclists. I'm relatively new to cycling and I wanted to get better, but saw nothing that would take a beginner and give you the chance to be as good as ability allows.
So, I started talking to trainers in the group about cyclist-specific training for all levels. I also required that it be the most affordable boot camp for members, but still paid the trainer a reasonable wage for their skill level. We achieved this, and this is the most affordable boot camp in the entire Metro area.
Dennis Fitzpatrick took the baton and came up with the Cyclist Boot Camp idea. Last summer, we implemented the beginning of this program. (See video at the bottom of the page)
We ran boot camps outdoors from June through September. We saw substantial improvement in several of the participants--with one improving their overall time for the Triple Bypass by nearly a full hour.
Why should you do Bicycle Boot Camp? Well, it's for all levels. It's tough, and it's the only ongoing Cyclist Training we've ever found. It's a complete program with suggested cycling workouts for the days you’re not in class.
“Bicycle Boot Camp” is for ALL levels; designed to improve both overall fitness and cycling ability. “Bicycle Boot Camp” is an intense total body workout, with emphasis on strengthening your core and the muscles used in cycling.
Class includes warm up, cardio, core, and strength modules. Emphasis is placed on improving cardio, muscular endurance, and leg and core strength. We will talk about injury prevention, diet and stretching. Each workout will include a 45 minute high-intensity indoor cycling session. Space is limited 16 cyclists and will include both YMCA and DFC members.

Where? Denver Downtown YMCA at 16th Ave. and Lincoln St.
When? Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:35-8:05 PM, February 12th- March 2nd.
Cost? $24 for 3 90 minute sessions. You can add the Master Spin on 4 Sundays for an additional $8 or pay $10 per class.. In addition to the Cyclist's Boot Camp for the lowest price, you get full access to the Y for the day, free towels, and parking. Price also includes a $10 discount on any DFC clothing. Payments: Bring a check or cash to the first class.

Who is your Professional Trainer? “Dennis Fitzpatrick is a former professional athlete, who is both an ACE certified fitness instructor and personal trainer. He has a degree in health science and has worked as a conditioning coach at the college level. He has won the state cycling championship(Criterion). He is a successful high school basketball coach and corporate fitness consultant. He has over 30 years experience training and coaching athletes, but is a specialist in conditioning for cycling.”
Parking? Free parking is available at the Star Park at 16th Ave. & Grant only. Pick up a parking slip at the Y front desk and leave it on your dashboard. It is good for the month of Feb. after 5pm. (and weekends). You can also park for free after 4pm on Logan St. and on 17th Ave. east of Lincoln after 6pm. The Y also has indoor bike racks if you come by bike.
Bring a Lock, 2 Water Bottles , a recovery drink and a mat, if you prefer to use your own.
