The Tour of the Moon was made famous in the 1970's and 1980's as a premier stage of the Coors Classic bicycle race and later in the cycling movie American Flyers. It continues to be considered one of the premire road rides in the western United States. The breath taking, high desert scenery and beautiful roads make this an epic day of cycling. Cyclists can choose from the "classic" Tour of the Moon 41-mile course or the extended Tour of the Moon and Fruita 62-mile metric century course. Both courses will start and finish at Two Rivers Convention Center in downtown Grand Junction, Colorado. All participants will start by entering the Colorado National Monument through east entrance and exiting through the west entrance. A minimum of three amply stocked aid/rest stations will be positioned throughout the courses. Upon returning from their ride, participants will be greeted by the "Harvest Moon Celebration". The post-ride party with music, an up-scale lunch, prize drawings and cycling expo will continue throughout the afternoon. The 2012 ride will be limited to the first 2,000 registered participants. The Tour of the Moon will work in partnership with the Colorado National Monument to raise funds for the River Front Commission and Bicycle Colorado. http://www.tourofthemoon.com/

Excellent. Well conducted for a first year tour. Already planning for next year's version (hopefully there will be one).

Great ride, amazing route, superb ride support. It's hard to believe this was a first-year event, it seemed very well planned. I'm ready to do it again next year.

Great route with spectacular scenery. I thought it was the best run initial ride I've ever been on. I'm already looking forward to next year, and plan to turn it into an extended weekend vacation. Was impressed by downtown Grand Junction, the hospitality, the volunteers, the movie, and the whole experience.

The Monument was a great view to experience. The ride was obvious a first time event and needs lots of tuning especially in the area of support. Will be nice to see how it develops.

Absolutely amazing - everything about it was fab - just didn't have a good light on the front for the tunnels, and the one I had purchased was a dud, but no biggy - stupendous ride, aid stations, food, and above all, scenery. :-) Sorry I had missed you, David!

    Hi Cyclists:
I am so sorry that I hadn't met up with any of you, as my buddy cyclist needed to head back to Denver by 4ish. We chowed, checked out some booths, and then took off. The ride was my favorite thus far. OMG - the scenery was exquisite. I hope you all did well. :-)

The monument ride is always great. I especially enjoyed
Trying to be the good intentioned cycling ambassador to too
Many oblivious folks taking up the entire roadway, by saying
ON YOUR LEFT, ON YOUR RIGHT, UP THE MIDDLE!!!!!!
ON THE SHOULDER, HOW BOUT OFF THE CLIFF!!!!

Great tour of the Colorado National Monument. I had a good time. I am a little sore now, but I expected that.

Looks like I'm riding this one solo. I have family over there so I'm going over early and have plans after the the lunch also, But if anyone wants to meet up to ride together let me know, I have a average pace ( 14-17mph) but a little slow on the hills, I'm shooting for the 62 miles as long as everything is going well.

Hi Ryan, my friend and I will be riding the 62 as well - I'm also about 14-17mph on the flats and slower on the hills. I'm excited for the challenge. We are going up Friday night and leaving after the ride - plans in Denver on Sunday. I haven't met you, but good luck!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
