4751 York Street, Denver, CO
This will be a one hour private tour of a great non-profit indoor farm. It's $15, payable upon arrival, and includes a organic salad the Growhaus will be providing for us (allow extra time for eating/socializing)! We must meet a minimum of 10 attendees, so if we don't make it, the meetup will be cancelled, but I really hope we do!
I've visited the Growhaus once and it's worth seeing. They are doing some really cool things and using innovative technologies to create organic food using the principles of sustainability. They're located in a not so great neighborhood, with the intent to educate residents on food issues and provide them with affordable, healthy food (versus buying a burger off the dollar menu). I'm pretty excited to check it out and learn a bit about what they are doing. Here's a bit about them:
"The Growhaus aims to be a catalyst for sustainable, community driven revitalization of Elyria-Swansea that will result in job creation and improve public health. We aim to achieve this vision through three primary efforts: food production, food education, and food distribution."
The Growhaus is a non-profit indoor urban farm, marketplace, and educational facility. Their goal is to provide healthy, affordable food to their surrounding community and to raise awareness about issues in food justice and sustainability.
They are committed to providing an abundance of organic food year-round with a minimum of inputs. Their growing operations demonstrate a variety of innovative, sustainable and community oriented urban farming techniques. The Hydrofarm is a commercial facility designed to maximize yield for our neighbors and generate earned income. The commercial Aquaponics System will increase food production capabilities and offer a protein source through fresh fish.
