Quirrel and How it Relates to R

In this Meetup, the Precog Developer Evangelist [1] will talk about a statistically-oriented query language called “Quirrel” and its similarities and differences with R. While Quirrel is neither as mature as R nor situated in such a robust ecosystem, it is easier to learn and simple to deploy results. In addition to some basic functionality, a predictive model will be created and discussed.

About Quirrel: Quirrel, sometimes referred to as the “R for big data” query language, is a new language designed specifically around modern needs for analyzing large amounts of semi-structured data. The language finds a common ground between the need to express highly complex analytical calculations, and the need to support efficient and automatic parallelization and distribution across large clusters of data nodes. I have a couple tutorial slide decks that i have given in the past. I'd be willing to talk about:

    Benfords Law (first digit distribution)
    Apiori Algorithm (arules package)
    Floating-Point comparisons in R (r inferno rip-off)
    Vectorization ( apply family functions)
Learning Curves (machine learning diagnostic tool)

any topic interest people, ill dust of slides and make sure im there.
