Creating an approachable data product with R using shiny and rCharts/ Plus +

Speaker: William Surles

Shiny is a web application framework for R. It allows you to easily turn your analyses into an interactive web application. You do not need to write any HTML, CSS, or JavaScript. rCharts is an R package that allows you to create interactive javascript visualizations form R using simple plotting formulas. In this talk I will cover the basics of building your first shiny app with a D3 visualization. I'll discuss some simple ways to turn an analysis into a powerful data product. I will tell some stories of solving major business problems with this framework.

As always, the talk will start at 7:30. Show up at 7 to enjoy a beverage and visit. There is also time to announce or briefly discuss R-related (i.e. data analysis, statistics, programming) thoughts, classes, interests, etc.

Will thanks for posting your code! Definitely helpful to see how you did it and to get some of your inside knowledge on Shiny+rCharts!

Great presentation. So much so that it just convinced me to waste the better part of a morning getting a Shiny instance setup and learning that rCharts doesn't handle dates seamlessly ...yet.

dplyr over data.table! If you use large tables (mine get over 50 million), it is a must. Performance is multiple times better.

      Make that "50 million rows".

William did a great job of showing the business value if Shiny and rCharts and put a lot into his demo and slide presentation!

I made this for the meetup.
I'll talk about what it is and how to make things like it tonight!
