The Mile High Skeptics Society is a science organization. We promote the public understanding of science, as well as using the scientific method to examine the data in support or against extraordinary claims, using evidenced-based methods.
Skeptics maintain that unless there is sufficient evidence to back up a particular claim, it is unlikely to be true.
Examples of false or unproven claims include UFOs, conspiracy theories, ghost hauntings, fad food diets, Bigfoot, alternative medicine of any kind (including acupuncture, chiropractic, naturopathy, homeopathy, etc.), applied kinesiology, psychic powers, tarot cards, ESP, religious beliefs, spiritual "energy," new age philosophies (including but not limited to Buddhism, meditation, yoga, etc.), "all natural" anything, "chemicals" are bad, organic food is better than any other type of food, vaccines hurt our children, artificial sweeteners cause brain damage, and just about every kind of popular woo that has poured out of the foul mouth of Dr. Mehmet Oz.
If you believe in or are in favor of even one of the aforementioned pop culture myths, you probably aren't going to have a very good time being a part of this group. You will also be required to answer very specific profile questions to qualify to join on the join page. Don't say you haven't been sufficiently cautioned.
A good resource on what our group is about is here: "Michael Shermer's Baloney Detection Kit": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUB4j0n2UDU
Come join us if you want to promote science. We also like to drink. A lot.
