Terry has Lake Pleasant covered, so let’s do a full moon paddle at Saguaro Lake.
Sunset is 7:34 and moonrise is 5:56. We will be on the water BEFORE 7:30, so don't be late.
We will be staying close to shore as much as possible. If you feel that you might be intimidated being on a dark lake with powerboat wakes at night, maybe you should consider passing on this paddle. If you have never been in a kayak before, this is probably not the paddle for you.
Please leave your dogs at home for this event and no children under 12.
We will be parking and launching at Saguaro Del Norte Facility boat ramp #1, not Butcher Jones beach. Do not park in a space or lot marked Boat Trailer Parking Only, as you will be fined. Due to the small size of the parking lot, I am limiting the number of participants. In fairness to your fellow members, please RSVP only if you are certain you will be attending. Late arrivers will have to drop their boats off near the water, park up on the hill and walk back down.
You do not need the usual red/green bow and white stern lights of a powerboat. All kayaks and canoes are required to have is a lantern or flashlight.
Here’s what AZ Game & Fish says:
“Manually propelled watercraft shall carry a lantern or flashlight showing a light that shall be exhibited in sufficient time to avert collision.”
Flashlights should be waterproof. I use a headband light as well as several chemical light sticks. The more lights you have, the easier it will be for moving powerboats to see you. Be creative! A flashlight will also be helpful when loading your boat in the dark. There are NO LIGHTS in the parking lot and snakes like the warm pavement.
