Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle - Saturday 9th August 2014
The Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle event is back this August.
SUMMARY:-Free big big cycling event (50K+ people attended last year) in central London with festival like atmosphere with half of the roads blocked for this event on 9th August
-We plan to meet at the Green Park festival zone at 12:00 and follow the cycle route towards tower bridge starting at around 12:15
-Take a short break at the tower bridge festival zone and let everyone reassemble
-Cycle back to the Green Park festival zone at your own pace
-Cycle another half circuit to tower bridge and reassemble at the tower bridge festival zone (trust me you will be able to do it, you will be cycling with thousands of other cyclists so you wont even realize that you cycled for 12 miles)
-Leave the cycle circuit from the tower bridge festival zone and cross the tower bridge and cycle all the way along thames from Tower bridge to london eye (it will be very busy on the day, so we will have to see how many of us are interested in this because I think there is no dedicated cycle route for cycling along the thames)
-You need to arrange your own cycles, best if you bring them
-You take part at your own risk, we are only facilitating the even for our group of friends and are not responsible in anyway for anyone taking part.
-Please follow all necessary safety measures e.g. wearing helmets etc.
Contact Person: Chirag / Rachna
We plan to meet at the Green Park festival zone at around 12:00 in the afternoon and cycle the 8 mile circuit thru central London. It is a free flow event in which you can cycle at your own pace and stop at the pubs / food stalls / festival zones all along the way on the 8 mile circuit. Last time there were people playing live music and there were big screens on display in the festival zones with live music, food stalls etc. The enviroment on the days is just fab like a big party / picnic in central London.
On the way we will take a break at the Tower Bridge Festival zone which will be almost half way along the circuit.
For those who are keen on cycling a bit more, can repeat the 8 mile circuit as many times as they like, if everyone is up for it, we could do the circuit twice. Also, in the end we could leave the circuit from the Tower Bridge Festival zone, across the Tower Bridge on the other side of the river and cycle all along the river Thames from tower bridge right up to London Eye.
You will need to bring your cycles, find out about renting them on the day... there are some details on the official site about renting cycles. The barclays cycle hire is one option, however the demand will be high and not sure if those cycles are best for this event... best is if you could get your own cycle. Around 50,000 riders (including some of us) took part in the inaugural Prudential Ride London Free Cycle event in August 2013 to enjoy a celebration of cycling.
Please note the Prudential Ride London has multiple cycling events over the weekend and we will be attending the Free Cycle event on 9th August
