Learn how applying user psychology to design leads to more success and less frustration. Cognitive science is the study of how people think- what motivates them, how they approach problems and reason about solutions. Oh, and there'll be drinks.

Larry Marine, an industry expert in UX, will be giving a talk on the intersection between Cog Sci and UI/UX- complete with some practical examples you can apply to everyday design challenges you encounter.

Larry earned his Cognitive Science degree at UC San Diego under Don Norman (author of The Design of Everyday Things), and has worked with companies of all sizes, from start-ups to Fortune 500.

Schedule:

6:00 - 6:30: Networking, drinks

6:30 - 7:30: Talk, followed by Q&A

7:30: Wrap up and discussions

Howdy y'all. I came across this cool site today on Twitter. Check out this, and other, free courses...

Top notch meetup in general. This meeting no exception. Good ideas. Good conversation. Cogsci is uber important to design and UX. It's just all about how we experience the world, that's it.

Larry is clearly knowledgable and experienced (I snagged some good points), but it would have been helpful to have examples with measured results to reinforce the points.

Great topic. Yes, some more takeaways or metrics about cogsc, design and results could have been interesting, but I thought it was a great overview.

Great talk that was broad enough for a "general" audience to understand, but advanced enough for us to get a good amount of knowledge out of it.

Presentation was okay with some great discussion toward the end. Larry had some key take-aways that I'll certainly use.
