Course in Design Thinking / Human Centered Design

It is exciting to see that MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) are gaining popularity and so is Design Thinking. And what can be better than MOOCs in Design Thinking. Coming month, two of the pioneer organizations in Design Thinking are offering free online courses.

One of them is Human-Centered Design for Social Innovation by IDEO.org and +Acumen.

"Human-Centered Design for Social Innovation is a five-week course that will introduce you to the concepts of human-centered design and help you use the design process to create innovative, effective, and sustainable solutions for social change. No prior design experience necessary."

Registration Deadline: July 03, only group of 2 or more allowed.

More details here: http://plusacumen.org/courses/hcd-for-social-innovation/

Another one is Design Thinking Action Lab by Stanford D. School. According to the course description:

"In this experiential course you will learn the design thinking process by tackling a real world innovation challenge. As preparation for each stage of the challenge, you will explore the main design thinking concepts through short videos, each paired with brief activities to practice relevant methods and approaches. There will be one weekly assignment reporting on your progress, as well as weekly Google hangouts with the instructor. On the last week of the course, you will apply the process to your own context and challenges, while hearing from experts who use design thinking to innovate in different fields, such as healthcare and education."

Begins on July 22

Hi there. It looks like the course at d.school is starting to move and we can set up a support team in helping us work through the course. I've set up "Hong Kong Design Thinkers" team. Please join here: https://venture-lab.org/designthinking/teams/51420

I have made a Google Spreadsheet for making groups for rest of the people. Please add your name under the course you want to take. If you want to take the +Acumen program and you were not present tonight (which means a part of the first group), please add your name under Group 2.

    Here's the link:

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsVAuupzmKUvdGp2V0tjaVlhTHlndldGd3FYVVItOGc&usp=sharing

For +Acumen program, please add your name as soon as possible as the deadline for registration is July 2nd. Also, since this program requires teamwork, please form a group only if you intend to finish the course. Else, inform the group of your intentions in the beginning itself. Ideally, the group size should be 4-5 people.

Only just see this message now whilst browsing. It seems Meetup does not send messages to people who have replied 'NO' to the RSVP (which makes sense) so I'm only re-reading these comments now.

yes, communicating through meetup group is not the best way to communicate the information. I am not even sure how many people got the message. Anways, I still know few people looking for groups for +Acumen program. Let me know.

Hi Kristin, Does these 2 classes we need to sign up individually on our own or should be as a group. I appreciate that if you may advise the procedures accordingly. Thanks a lot.
